Boy, Phil is a soft touch!

Notice how Eliot draws Holly with eyelashes (supposedly batting) when she’s trying to manipulate a man? We can already see from this that she’ll have a shallow future of not doing much of anything. She’ll grow up to be pretty bubblehead like Tiffany in ‘Luann’.

Holly didn’t go far enough. She should have asked for the car. Big lies get believed much more easily than little lies, as recent history can teach us.

I don’t think Phil was so easily fooled either! Anyone remember when Holly tried to sneak outside (when Val was sleeping) to meet with her first boyfriend and he caught her?

Phil knew what he was doing, all right. And he knew what Holly was trying to do. AND – he knew what the result would be.+As Bill Cosby once said about fathers – “We are dumb… but we’re not so dumb.” :)

Reminds me of when I’d do substitute teaching, and what the little nippers (college freshmen) would try to pull. “Oh, Ms. ______ didn’t give us any homework. She always lets us _________,” and so on.

You would expect a cop to be wise to those tricks as well.

I agree, he wasn’t fooled for a minute, just playing head games. Like I tell my kids, “Half the fun of having kids is messing with their minds.” Unfortunately though, in these circumstances, it makes Mom out to be the bad guy.
