You know he’s going to nail that frame to the tree and use it for target practice…you DO know that, don’t you?

As Red Green once said: “If I can do it, it ain’t art!”

Thank God I live in Michigan where the trees are all the right size…….BTW, the only time we us the word Mitt around here is when we’re talking about the Lower Peninsula..(usually showing people where we live…).

I think that I shall never see, a billboard lovely as a tree. In fact unless the billboards fall, I’ll never see a tree at all- um… I forgot who wrote that.

It’s just a matter of perspective. One person’s great work of nature (or God) is another person’s new table. I prefer the great work of nature/God.

This is a little long, so I hope you don’t mind if I share it. This poem was a favorite from my childhood, and I loved reading it to my children. :) ~ Trees by Harry Behn

Trees are the kindest things I know, They do no harm, they simply grow And spread a shade for sleepy cows, And gather birds among their boughs. They give us fruit in leaves above, And wood to make our houses of, And leaves to burn on Halloween, And in the Spring new buds of green. They are the first when day’s begun To touch the beams of morning sun, They are the last to hold the light When evening changes into night, And when a moon floats on the sky They hum a drowsy lullabyOf sleepy children long ago… Trees are the kindest things I know.

I have mixed feelings about this one. Yes, nature is often beautiful, and can be appreciated as such, but it’s not “Art.” It’s not artifice, it’s not “artificial.” It simply IS, it just HAPPENED.

The “artist” in this scenario (not including Wiley) is the guy with the frame. By holding the frame in a particular place (as opposed to other places he might have held it), he’s creating a composition. He’s making an aesthetic choice, even if it’s a subjective and impermanent one.

Besides, I don’t dig landscapes. But if there’s a squirrel in the tree, that’s the element I’D frame.

Trees are indeed a renewable resource. However after they reach a certain height breadth and age one has to stop thinking of them as a renewable resource because no woodsman lumber or pulp company is going to allow trees to become 1,000 years old again.

I’m always amazed about the diversity of trees. They’re individuals just like humans! When you think about it, all things are individual.

has any one considered the fact that Mr Miller just set off an all day piece of performance art? gocomics is the canvas, and we are the media on that canvas. : )its an idea i like.

Is this a statement about how much nature has influenced Miller’s art?……But, there is something I’ve wondered about. Why do humans love beautiful things? What good does it do for our survival? There must be a reason it’s in us..right?

I think I’m agreeing with Fritzoid. I’m not sure what to make of this strip. As an artist myself, my strength is in portraits – however, I’m an avid nature lover and WISH I could paint landscapes that would move people. Nothing can beat the real thing but in its absence…
