I think “The Talk” should be about who’s gonna litter box train the elephant AND/OR who gets to scoop (big shovel) up the poop!

Earl needs to stop hoarding peanuts. Elephants can smell them from miles away.

It ran away from the circus, to join a real family. “OK, we’ve avoided it long enough.” Just how long has Elly been there?

Simple: you kept feeding him so he decided to move in.

Of course, my first thought was this was going to be another ED med joke. Always in the gutter.

    spin kick to your head

Keep all political commentary to yourself.

Now, this the precisely the problem with watching Disney movies. I can’t tell you how many people got monkeys and tigers after watching Aladdin.

There was NOTHING of ANY political commentary in this cartoon. It was just a simple gag on an old saying.

Also, Sunday editions are done at least 6 weeks in advance of publication, so there is nothing that could possibly allude to the Sarah Palin situation that occurred Friday afternoon.

Just take cartoons at face value, folks. Don’t make life any more complicated and stupid than it already is.

its not the intention , it’s how it is perceived…. but the only comment i have is the surpising sensitivity of some sarah lovers…dont you DARE say anything bad about our pretty sarah…. spin kick to head, indeed…. that’s the way to settle differences…..disagree? take em out! very commendable

Thanks, Wiley, but it’s going to fall on some deaf ears out there. The empowering feeling of user-name ananimity causes brain damage in some people & makes their heads swell with the “reality is me & only me” stance.

For those unfamiliar with the saying: “The elephant in the room” refers to some big problem which people avoid because the notion of dealing with it is so daunting. For a couple like Earl and Edna, it might be moving into assisted living or preparing their wills. In other situations, it might signify ending a marriage or other relationship, finding a new job or additional source of income, dealing with an employee’s or loved one’s addiction, etc.

Maybe, just maybe, Wiley is approaching this from the wrong angle.

By the puzzled look on the “Elephant’s” face ………. he might be asking how did these two old and decrepit monkey types get into his room. Or, maybe, it was one hell of a party last night.

Those two Homo sapiens are every pachyderm’s worst nightmare !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s way funnier as a political cartoon. Sorry, Wiley. But you should know better than to put an elephant in a comic.

Most people are smart enough to know that simply having an elephant in a cartoon doesn’t turn it into a commentary on the Republican party. One only needs to actually read the cartoon and put it in context.

ah yes, context. so many simple minded people around who refuse to pay any attention to it. i never took it as political, but then, i don’t look for politics or religion in comic strips (except for the few that i read which occasionally make reference to those topics). it made me laugh. that’s all it needs to do.

Very good. I especially liked the comic yesterday about the tombstone in the Last Words Cemetery that read ” How hard can it be to make your own fireworks ? ” Thanks Wiley for all the laughs ! I never miss a day.

Honestly, some people read way too much into comics… they’re meant to be entertaining and witty. And as Wiley said, they’re put in so far in advance, that anything happening in the news is pure coincidence. Good job Wiley, keep em coming!

You’ve all got it wrong. The Elephant is “Growing Old”, unless you are getting your “nose rubbed in it”, i.e., Growing Old and having to cope with the aches and pains of an age none of us were ever going to become. The boomers are now collecting Soc. Security. Earl and Edna finally realize they must face that reality.
