@johncon Something like what Ramirez fantasizes above happens extremely rarely, if ever. On the other hand the Republican Party has resisted science and common sense on every meaningful issue, be it climate change, pollution, medicine or women’s reproductive rights.

How can the whole Repubic Party lose its grip on reality in only a few short years? How did it happen? Who did it? Why? I guess “follow the science is no longer operative”.

NCAA Policy on Transgender Student-Athlete Participation.

The following policies clarify participation of transgender student-athletes undergoing hormonal treatment for gender transition:

    1. A trans male (FTM) student-athlete who has received a medical exception for treatment with testosterone for diagnosed Gender Identity Disorder or gender dysphoria and/or Transsexualism, for purposes of NCAA competition may compete on a men’s team, but is no longer eligible to compete on a women’s team without changing that team status to a mixed team.

    2. A trans female (MTF) student-athlete being treated with testosterone suppression medication for Gender Identity Disorder or gender dysphoria and/or Transsexualism, for the purposes of NCAA competition may continue to compete on a men’s team but may not compete on a women’s team without changing it to a mixed team status until completing one calendar year of testosterone suppression treatment.8.

Any transgender student-athlete who is not taking hormone treatment related to gender transition may participate in sex-separated sports activities in accordance with his or her assigned birth gender.

    • A trans male (FTM) student-athlete who is not taking testosterone related to gender transition may participate on a men’s or women’s team.

    • A trans female (MTF) transgender student-athlete who is not taking hormone treatments related to gender transition may not compete on a women’s team.

This is an horrific lie that feeds hate. Ramirez needs to park his bias and start doing some research. This cartoon is a typical example of opening your mouth and proving you’re a fool.

Regardless of the specific athlete’s declared sex, how are is humanity to know if that person has a, (choose your term), genuine, honest, or sincere claim to that identity that allows that athlete to compete in a field on a gender specific team that clearly gives that athlete an advantage over the others competitors? If the only solution is believed to be dropping all gender based barriers to those persons who wish to compete in any sport and throw in the NIL rules I, for one don’t think amateur or professional sports would become blood sport much like the WWF or MMA.

Playing to the haters, Ramirez reminds me of the racists who sniffed around looking for a hint of African blood to smear anyone in our racist not-entirely-past (look up now thankfully archaic terms like “quadroon” and “octoroon”).

It’s all fun and games until it’s your daughter that is the one forced to change in front of a person with man parts (you show me yours and I’ll show you mine), or she loses a chance for a scholarship. Of all the crazy ideas that democrats have come up with in the last 5 years or so, this one’s gotta be near the top.

Here’s a wrinkle for y’all. At our junior high, the best player on the U-12 BOYS soccer team was a GIRL. They elected her captain and they had a great season. She is now married to a man and has children. Should she have been allowed to play on that team?

I love how all these neocons are on here claiming to be scientific experts. So, X and Y chromosomes are all there is to genetics and gender? There is no such thing as epigenetics. No such thing as endocrinology? Have you never noticed that some men seem naturally effeminate or women that seem unusually masculine?

Create a third category for trans athletes, so all two or three of them can compete against each other. Wasting too much time on this BS.

I don’t think trans athletes should compete with women (note that this is only an issue with women’s sports, there are no complaints in men’s sports). Regardless of what gender you identify with, you are stuck with the body you were born with and that makes a difference.

However, I’m struck by the right’s obsession with this issue. There are maybe 2.5 million people who identify as trans in the US. The number of those who want to compete in sports can’t be very large. Add to that the fact that while size does matter, woman athletes are formidable competitors and if you want to compete with them you’d better be on your game. It can’t be a very large number to be such a big issue. And, as I noted, no one seems concerned with trans men competing with other men.

The whole thing reeks of homophobia.

I think that this can lead to terrible social and psychological damage. But if you do not feel that way, one might argue that some things are more important than fairness in athletic contests.

This is a complete travesty. There is a weight training coach up in Canada who coaches national class women’s powerlifting team. He got sick and tired of his hard working girls having some mediocre male slob declare himself a female and out lift his hard working ladies by 50 or more pounds. So just before a competition he declared himself a female and competed. He out lifted the fake female “A” hole by as much as 250 pounds. He took the trophies, and his team and walked out.

Although I’m a liberal and not at all interested in bothering people living their lives, I do disagree with allowing trans women to compete, simply based on competition.

Sex and gender are different. I get that some people identify as a different gender than the one to which they were born—and are genetically coded to be. We’re a big enough society to accept people like that.

But we set up women’s sports to allow them to compete with each other on a fair basis. A woman who has transitioned from being born a man—whether or not that transition is complete—has inherent advantages over women born as women. We can acknowledge and accept this without hurting on these people. We can accept them for who they are, not who they’d like to be.

I really don’t care what people call themselves, what they wear, or which bathroom they use. (Public restrooms should be unisex anyway.) But if we want to create a competitive category for women’s sports out of a sense of fair play, then we should maintain that fairness.

    I’m sure it’s a rampant problem.

Despite the hysteria, transgendered people are few in number; about 50-50 of each sex; and you’re talking about the fraction of same who are in college; and the very small fraction of that fraction who “go out for” team sports. Presumably many (most?) M to F transgendered persons would go to some lengths to eliminate male adult facial hair, which would be most effective with hormone treatments or castration, which would go far to reducing or eliminating any “testosterone advantage”.

    Just asking.

This isn’t an idea that Democrats “came up with”.

Rather Democrats simply acknowledge that being trans is a real thing and that trans people have rights and deserve respect just like everyone else.

Today’s cartoon just shows the irrational fear that some live with. Many of the comments show the intolerance of those who cling to ignorance and hate.

I’m interested that so many people, on both sides of the political spectrum, are so concerned about competitive sports. I’m not a big fan of competitive sports; I just don’t care who wins or loses. (Probably cause I’ve lost every game I’ve ever played.)
