To the extent that EV’s are available as a free choice to the buying public, I see no problem. Forcing the entire automotive industry to warp itself into making them the only choice is fascist and an obvious loss of freedom.

Electric van manufacturer Canoo announced a highly visible deal with the United States Postal Service (USPS), which will see the USPS acquire a handful of right-hand drive versions of the company’s LDV 190 delivery van.

Canoo announced that the USPS will purchase six (6) battery-electric Canoo vehicles. In its official press release, the company said that it was “honored” to participate in the post office’s evaluation of potential suppliers as the USPS moves towards the “groundbreaking electrification and modernization” of its national delivery fleet.

Early stages of technology will always have their naysayers. They’re almost always dead wrong.

That’s right, Mr. Ramirez — leave the world-wide ever-increasing EV market to the Chinese so that Trump, if elected, can bring us back to the 1950s.

The transition from petroleum to electric vehicles is just beginning and we should anticipate leaps and bounds, reversals and failures, and then a tipping point over which industries and transportation networks are forever altered.

When we made the transition from horses to petroleum, there were many different technologies attempted for “horseless carriages”, including coal, gasoline, electricity and even hybrid. Many of the small businessmen who were building horse carriages attempted to build horseless carriages, though the engines and transmissions were a more difficult challenge. Saddlemakers took on seats and steering wheels. Wheelmakers could try to up their game. While all of this innovation was occurring the supply and distribution network was experiencing its own growth challenges.

So…when we see some bet fail, some business take a hit because their bet was wrong, or wrongly timed, do not be shocked. We have a long way to go. Let’s call 2015 the start of this cycle, so we’re 10 years into a 20 or 30 year process. We need significant investment in storage and supply and distribution. We need improvement in vehicle range, quick charging, and safety. Enjoy the ride!
