It might be a good idea to be more careful in the Supreme Court selection process. Make sure they are properly vetted and then there should be some kind of oversight committee that doesn’t have allegiance to any one political party that can cause Court members breaking ethics rules to be impeached.
Partisan bias, and self-indulgence are problems in any system with no built-in [altruistic] incentives to [deliborate,] collaborate [, and compromise].
Give them credit for taking the time to put it on paper. It’s a start and possibly the next generation (or two) of Supreme Court members will abide by it.
It will be Roberts more than Thomas who will be remembered. He sold out ethics with Citizens United. Thomas is just a wart on an infected pig, Mitch’s unholy three the yodeling choir.
Not even close to a leash. The Code is only suggestion, not rule. It consists of ‘shoulds’, not ‘shalls’. There are no penalties or recourse. It is, if I may, a toothless dog that will not hunt.

I fear that Mr Bennett has missed the mark, here. The code of conduct is vague and aspirational, uses the spinsterish “should” twenty-some times. The image in Mr Bennett’s art would make sense if the leash were six or seven yards long.

I’d have the dog peeing the papers.

I’d have the dog biting them in their A$$es if they didn’t follow Good Conduct code.

The fact that no one is holding the leash pretty much says it all about enforceability.

It would be nice if there was an actual enforcement clause and it wasn’t self-regulatory. Right now it’s just a theoretical leash.

If you can’t trust the supreme court justices to behave ethically all by themselves, then WHY THE FROCK are they even IN that court?
Better, imo, to reduce the barrier to impeachment.

Why use a pit bull? Pit bulls are nice. Rottweilers or Dobermans would be more appropriate.

Turn your back, and they’ll steal your steak and eat your trash, then impregnate your neighbor’s dog.

Why insult a dog? Dogs are decent people! Some SCOTUS scrotums, not so much.

What really ticks me is those in scotus while taking the bribe, will look at you and say, “…What?”
phritzg Premium Member 7 months ago
I’m sure some members of this court view bribes as a perk of the job.

The leash looks too weak to hold that unethical dog (SCOTUS).

Next week’s comic – Biden on a leash, and “No Bribes” on his collar. Here boy. That’s a good boy.

The dog is toothless and easily distracted by shiny objects.

Too bad that Code of Ethics has no teeth – it’s up to each Justice to decide for themselves and there are no enforcement provisions. What a joke.

Inappropriate. The fact that there’s a leash there AT ALL implies that someone COULD grab it. But there ISN’T and we CAN’T!
Carthago delenda est 7 months ago
The leash isn’t attached to anything but the dog. This code of conduct is symbolic only.
