    No big deal.

    Thoughts and prayers.

Another demonstration of how more guns make us safer.

    .

Another opportunity for celebration by gun violence advocates.

Why? Because a$$hat 2-A advocates push and push to remove all legislation that would have controlled this man’s access to guns. Maine has the most liberal gun owner frameworks in the nation. They weak or non-existent red-flag laws. This is a problem caused by conservatives who feel that anyone, anywhere should be allowed to own any gun they want and that no government can take it away from them. Access to guns is the problem and all the radical 2A activists want to do is increase access.

Stop playing the mourning victim. Conservatives created the problem because the NRA writes big checks for them to turn a blind eye. Every death, every dead child, is an acceptable sacrifice for you people. Your gun-god always wants more.

    Why what?

Why wasn’t he identified and treated?

Why was he allowed access to weapons of mass murder?

Why didn’t someone he know speak up and get him help?

Why do people who KNOW better still allow mass murder weapons to be owned by the unfit and unstable?

Just “why” simply doesn’t cut it, Mike.

The congressperson from the 2nd District of Maine, which includes Lewiston, Jared Golden, is a Democrat who has had to vote against gun-control legislation to maintain his seat. It is a very rural, sparsely settled area where honest, hardworking Mainers struggle to make a living in a no-frills lifestyle. They have a deep-seated belief in, not only their right, but need to own and use guns for hunting and recreation. Because of Maines unique voting laws, they have been able to award Mr. Trump an electoral vote in both of his campaigns, even though the rest of the state (southern half) is strongly Democrat. Yesterday, Mr. Golden, who lives in Lewiston, admitted that his stance has been wrong, regarding gun control and apologized.

We are a state of only 1.3 million, so, as I can attest, none of us seems to be more than a few degrees from someone who died in Wednesday’s massacre. The future will show us what happens to Mr. Golden due to his courage to call “enough” to this outrage of gun love, but it does show a major difference between the major parties in our country. When Democrats are forced to admit they were wrong by a long term problem slapping them in the face, they admit it and try to make amends. Republicans, once their stance is taken, can and will not admit anything they or their leaders do is ever wrong and will typically double-down on the big lie. My personal belief is that their brains are structured differently and draw conclusions by a completely different path of neurons.

In this particular case in Lewiston, there is no doubt that the perp is deranged, but many refuse to even suggest that his access to his chosen tool of destruction should have been prevented. Some in these comments say the problem is not the gun but his “heart”, whatever that is. Well this guy hasn’t given us the relief from his reign of terror that the neighbors of many such incidents “enjoy”. He hasn’t offed himself and is still at large, and we are still cont’d

locked down and terrorized for the second day. No schools, no commerce, no peace. So, please, “conservatives”, pull out your pocket edition of the Constitution and read the entirety of the 2nd A and consider what believing in only the WORDING of the second phrase really means.

The call for more investment in mental health belies the fact that the GOP thinks cutting gov’t expenditures is the sole reason to be in Congress. Because socialism. Just a way to look like they really, really, really care while keeping this SNAFU going.

Oh stop! America proved that it doesn’t care about gun violence when it nothing after Sandy Hook. Even the shock of murdering small children wasn’t enough to make us do something about our gun addiction. We’re like junkies who will roll little old ladies to get cash for our next fix.

The idea that only mental illness is the reason behind gun violence is a tool to give people justification not to consider other reasons.

Let’s consider our southern border situation: why are all those people leaving Central and South America? A large part of the reason is that those countries are no longer safe, due to ineffective, incompetent, and/or corrupt governments who have no clue how to deal with organized and WELL-ARMED cartels and gangs.

And where do these arms come from? Texas and Florida, because their gun laws are so loose that most anyone can get most anything in most any quantity. Smuggling weapons into Mexico is as profitable as smuggling fentanyl from Mexico.

There are only two ways to interpret this, and only one that will make this jibe with the idea that only people with mental illness are to blame for so much gun violence: that everyone who chooses to use a gun to solve a problem is mentally ill.

A more rational explanation would be that the proliferation of guns increases the proliferation of gun violence. But who wants to be rational?

I have opposed efforts to ban deadly weapons of war, like the assault rifle used to carry out this crime," Golden said at a news conference Thursday. “The time has now come for me to take responsibility for this failure, which is why I now call on the United States Congress to ban assault rifles like the one used by the sick perpetrator of this mass killing in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine.”

“For the good of my community, I will work with any colleague to get this done in the time that I have left in Congress,” he said.

I am curious about something regarding Maine. They are a Constitutional Carry State, no permit required to carry concealed or open on the hip or shoulder, did the mass killer run into anyone that fought back? Taking a kid bowling isn’t historically a dangerous activity and drinking in a pool hall/bar carrying a weapon isn’t allowed. I wonder if the Bowling Ally had a no gun sign at the front door???

as i’ve noted elsewhere, we don’t have to worry about getting shot at the bowling alley here in japan. or shot anywhere else, for that matter, unless we happen to be yakuza, and even they don’t do much shooting these days. japan needs a population infusion, so anyone who’s tired of being a target in the u.s. might want to check out job prospects here in the land of the rising sun… ☺

Just found out this guy turned himself in, Maine only kept him for two weeks, than released him. The other day on a different thread, I said maybe we can at least double the length of these psychiatric holds, get better evaluations, turn them over to outpatient clinics and go from there. I thought the holds were limited to three or four days but Main kept him for two weeks. Ok I was off, but what gets me now, they had no law to remove the guns after Robert Card said he had voices telling him to kill people.

    Why?

    Guns.

Lots and lots and lots and lots of guns.

The most gun deaths per capita than any other nation in the world over 10M in population. By FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Because we have the most private gun ownership per capita. Also by far.

Get rid of the guns and you lower the violence. It’s that simple.
