Yes, despite his mild-mannered, genteel appearance, new House Speaker Mike Johnson is one of the crazies. If the straitjacket doesn’t rein in this newly empowered fringe extremist, it is the freedoms of everyday Americans that will be in the straitjacket.

The only difference between Mike Johnson and the cabal of Matt “Venmo” Gaetz, Gym “look the other way” Jordan, Lauren “grab ’em by the Beetlejuice” Boebert and Marjorie “I cheated on my husband with my trainer” Taylor Green is that Johnson is a more buttoned-down, low-key Trojan Horse.

On actual policies, he is as bad or worse than any of the others, but he promotes his extremist views with a smile, a soft voice and a quiet demeanor. In reality, Speaker Mike Johnson…

    • …was not only an election denier, he was among the most aggressive architects in the plot to overthrow the full, free and fair election of Joe Biden, which we now know from the testimony of some of Trump’s closest insider advisors, that all of them, and Trump himself, knew to be the case.

    • …is trying to enact a nationwide total ban on women’s reproductive choice.

    • …preaches the lie that vaccinations don’t work and that covid was a hoax, peddling vicious lies that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of needless deaths (so much for “pro-life”)

    • …says that Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme” and was to undermine Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in ways that hurt middle class people but allow more corporate profits

    • …says that easy access to battlefield weapons of war is not what is causing the current and worsening epidemic of firearm carnage, but the “human heart.” He does not explain why he thinks American hearts are so much more evil than the hearts of those in other industrialized countries.

A strait jacket is a good idea. After all, you don’t need arms to drive the clown car that is the modern GQP. You can remove his glasses, too, since he’s been anointed as the leader of the NotSee Party.

Google: Is House Speaker Mike Johnson crazy MAGA

Many good hits. Matt Gaetz and the ‘Crazy 8s’ are mentioned.

That looks pretty good on him. After reading up about his policies and general mindset, I don’t object.

What’s more frightening is the party that thought he’d be a good idea.

Mr. Peepers with a “personal mandate from God Almighty” to impose his certainties on every human in the Divided States of Acirema whether they like it or not, & to punish any creative evolutions of human behavior by smashing round people into square holes – especially if it murders their spirits. a “black child” (like Barrett) to prove his non-racist cred, a Phd. in false humility & a Mr. Rogers to serve orange Cronus hand & foot from his own little bully pulpit. in line for the presidency. Putin’s delight.

According to the new Speaker the Earth is only 6000 yo and Noah had Dinosaurs as passengers on the Ark. He’s making my head hurt from such ignorance.

The new speaker is a junior representative without much experience. The key people to watch is who he brings on board as his staff expands. They will be more experienced than he is, and will advise him on many things. Good advice will help, but if the staff is from prior representatives such as Jordan or McCarthy they may steer the new speaker down a dangerous path.

Is that policy where one member can remove the speaker still in effect? A waco did it the first time, perhaps the next time it can be a reasonable one.

Yes, Mike Johnson is a MAGA loon, but for all the hand-wringing the Democrats have a majority (albeit a slim one) in the Senate. So, any impeachment bill or other wish list for the Freedom Caucus won’t likely get anywhere in the Senate. Hopefully, he and the others in the House will nix the one-vote rule that enabled Matt Gaetz to oust ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy. And that he would have the sense to know that shutting down the government next month won’t be good news for anyone. Especially since all seats in the House (and one third of the Senate) are up for reelection next year. Even in heavily gerrymandered “safe” districts, Congressmen still like to think their constituents back home are happy with the job they’re doing. It’s up to us the voters to turn out with greater intensity than the MAGAs next year and win back the House and widen the Dems Senate majority (and keep the Presidency as well). As for certifying the 2024 election, the new Congress will be sworn in on January 3rd 2025, the Presidential election won’t be certified until January 6th. Ideally, the Dems will have taken back the House and appointed Hakeem Jefferies as Speaker.

“Mark my words, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] Party, and they’re sure to do so, it’s going to be a terrible dad-gum problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”

    - Barry Goldwater

I know, I had to change one word to please the mods. Apologies, but I think you can figure out which one.

He fits their want ad: He a) was an election denier and b) pledges to cut Social Security. The Orange Guy was more interested in the first scenario.
