A lot of critics who think democracy is a failed experiment based on their observation of the US Congress have a point. Sometimes I am ashamed of the low level of rational thought in our elected representatives. Can they not see beyond their own personal petty insecurities? Have they no sense of the larger picture and their role in painting us as the stars and stripes of hope for millions around the world? They need to see the purpose of blending the white and blue with those buckets of red they are splashing about.
