One of Putin’s many revolving justifications for invading Ukraine, if I remember correctly, was he was afraid of too many countries joining NATO on his border. I wonder how he likes them apples.
might better revisit ukraine’s joining. i hope i never have to say “i told you so”, because we live less than 10 miles from 6 eastern Va nuke targets. and as a member state, US will have to render armed forces response to ukraine. that could get ugly. the fear is real, here. go Joe Brandon! his leftists could bring this mighty nation to its knees.
Do not for a moment underestimate the military prowess of the Swedes. Just look at their outsized cultural and technological achievements, from movies and music to automobiles to sports to Spotify.
I wouldn’t underestimate the Swedes as they have a history of going toe to toe with the Russians. They’ve gone to war with Russia at least twice and even tried to seize control of the Baltic from them. Today their military is built and trained to do one thing and that is to fight Russians.
I don’t know if many people realize this, but ALL the measurements in the stuff IKEA sells are metric, including the hex wrenches. The measurements are converted to US units for stuff they sell in the US.

I cannot imagine anything funny about Sweden joining. Though I guess it might increase the diversity of the ration packs, as implied.

Sweden is normally neutral, like Switzerland, which doesn’t mean a bad military. They just don’t waste it policing the world…like us!

Sweden does bring a respectable military to the alliance although I wonder if there are any unexpected consequences.

I was in Bosnia, in 96, and met some of the Swedes supporting IFOR as part of the Nord Pole Brigade. They were some badass hombres.

I remember an old one-liner about “Everyone was in an alliance in World War Two except the cowardly Swedes and the peace-loving Irish”.
