    A science fiction author named Spider Robinson wrote a story around the idea that someone who commits irony is an iron, therefore “God is an Iron” (the name of the story).

    Irony is an “intellectual” joke. If you think about it, you can understand why it’s funny. By that point, however, it is no longer funny enough to make you laugh. Rather like this explanation.
