My dad was born in Australia. My younger sister once asked him what is was like when he was a little boy and George Washington was president. He looked at her over his glasses and replied, “I didn’t come to America until after that. Go ask Mummy."
I once told my dad that he was NOT older than dirt, but he was around when dirt was still shiny. I am still amazed that I was allowed to grow up (well. . . at least get older. The growing up part is still a work in progress).
Went as a child with my parents to Lancaster, PA and rode on the Strasburg RR. Went with my husband when we were just out of college and rode it again a couple of times on trips. Have not bothered since then – why spend the time and money when there are so many other things to do in the area – like going to the farmer’s markets – his favorite thing to do.

You should go find him a steam train ride. They’re fun.

When I was a kid, I asked my Grandma if she came to Oregon in a covered wagon. She got mad. I was only a little kid.

Not gonna get any brownie points for that.

I did ride on a steam powered train as a kid, but it was scaled down replica ride that went between the rose garden and the zoo in Portland, OR.

I remember when the B&O transitioned from Steam to Diesel… just barely. It certainly made laundry day better.

I laughed when my daughter inferred that I was alive when covered wagons and hoop skirts were trending
