The term transgender is about as clear as looking at a cupboard where all the labels have been removed from the cans. You don’t know what you’re getting until you open the can to see what is inside; transgender was designed to confuse at best and to undermine the medical issues of transsexuals by grouping them with drag queens/kings, transvestites, crossdressers, and transgenderist (full time crossdressers); none of the latter seems to want to change anything other than their outward attire. If they want all-inclusive terms, why is gay and lesbian separated then?

Gender Queer contains illustrations depicting graphic sexual acts such as oral sex and masturbation. Nobody wants the book “banned”, but most people agree that it doesn’t belong in an elementary school classroom or library.

According to the author of the “Gender Queer” graphic memoir, the target audience is young adults – not school children.

I have an American friend who teaches in a Japanese school. Teachers there are revered and respected, and she said she would never, ever teach in an American government school.

They operate on the misconception that sexual orientation is a choice and not the way a person is “wired.” People who have varied orientations have existed since the dawn of time; they only seem to be proliferating because our society at least made a start at treating everyone fairly and not suppressing people because they fear it’s somehow contagious.

Junior is more like to find a Playboy or Gallery in Dad’s underwear drawer.

I remember when I was young and reading everything that was in the house, I read an “adult” novel that shocked my mother when I told her I had read it. I re-read it twenty years later and recognized — FOR THE FIRST TIME — the sections of the novel that likely shocked my mother long ago. As a child, I was not interested in the “adult” content. What others perceive is often in our personal blindspot especially when we forget that we do not all share the same sensitivities. Ignorance, is, however, not the best solution, nor is censoring either. The high rates of STDs in the bible belt are proof of that. We do have to find a way to protect our children from harm — including ignorance about their own bodies and identities.

I’ve read the book cover to cover. There isn’t a centerfold. And yes indeed, back in the 70’s Playboy was in my HS library. If a student wanted a particular article, the librarian would unlock the cabinet in the office and photocopy it for the student (without pictures). I was a library aide and I didn’t have access. Anybody else remember using the Readers Research guide to Periodicals?

Some homeschoolers I know did the homeschooling thing with their daughters in order to make sure that “they don’t get corrupted by those terrible liberal public schools”. They also only allowed them to do outside activities that were church programs.

Both are socially awkward and ended up on drugs. One claims to have been molested multiple times by clergy at their church, the other claims molestations by boys at that church. Both of them have babies out of wedlock. Both are still living in their parents’ home. Neither hold a job for very long. Both like to disappear for weeks, without notice, while expecting their parents to take care of their babies. Good job, parents!

How are your kids going to react when, as adults, they are exposed to the realities of sexual identity, Gary? They are not going to think kindly of your ‘protecting’ them from reality.

If modern day Conservatives and Christians had to be half as brave as LGBT people need to be, they would never leave their houses. LGBT people have to go out the door every day into a world shaped by hateful people…who direct their hate against them with both virtiol and action. And then conservatives whine that they are being persecuted when people complain about their being cruel. Classic bullies…cruel and cowardly.

Yes, god fearing americans only teach their children about sex education and different lifestyles where that perversion belongs, in the child’s bedroom or the “family” room. Free and open thinking is dangerous thinking. /s

Can’t talk about mass shootings beyond thoughts and prayers. Can’t talk about the national debt beyond sadistic budget cuts. Can’t talk about corporate greed fueling inflation. Can’t even mention how banning abortion is injuring women and threatening doctors. So go after teachers and libraries because an uninformed public is an easily manipulated public.

I’d be extremely surprised if this kind of “centerfold” material is being circulated in schools…..oh,wait….it’s probably being taught by those terrible drag queens,ok,my bad!

One of the most disgusting myths perpetrated by the radical right (and illustrated here by Mr. Varvel) is that “grooming” children in public schools is rampant. It is not, and anyone who says it is should provide examples and proof.

It isn’t that drag queens are men dressed as woman, it’s that they prefer to perform in front of children. Why is that?

How about if we consider a long-haired redneck, who is heavily into recreational drugs, who uses an AR-15 to blow up beer cans he does not like…maybe he is the weirdo?
