Your trash hauler just tripled his rates after buying out all the local competition. And now misses pickups a lot with no valid excuse. And will not refund those missed pickups. But, no worries. Unrestrained, uncontrolled free market capitalism will save us all, right? /S.
We live on a really short, steep gravel road. Our trash hauler WILL back up that hill to pick up garbage, but the driver WILL rev his engine and spin his drive wheels as he backs up. So to protect our road, we have to haul the cans all the way to the bottom. And the empty ones all the way back up. Blessings on our neighbor who has a light trailer and will haul for us (he’s protecting his road too, of course).
You know I’ve been recycling since day one and repurposing before that. My recycling makes tossing trash and garbage practically a monthly affair. Inflation has nothing to do with it. It just makes sense. If the current inflation makes some people save, recycle and repurpose then thank goodness. The more the merrier.
Data Analyst here. My driveway is 280 feet long. That’s 0.05 miles. So a round trip is 0.1 miles. Do that 50 times a year and that is 5 miles. I’ve been in my house 25 years. That means I’ve put 125 miles on my trash can. I think it’s due an oil change.
I have watched the oil industry squeeze the dollars out of us through my lifetime, pumping gas for 29 cents a gallon in the middle sixties to what it is today. Just trying keep up my pay up to afford gas, my life in a nutshell.
Well, the average American is carrying a credit card debt of between $5,000 – $6,000 (https://www.cnbc.com/select/average-credit-card-balance-by-state/). Paying only the monthly minimum payment (and assuming no additional purchases are added on), it will take a mere 40+ years to pay off that balance. There used to be a concept called “living within your means.” However, since that is not good for Corporate America’s bottom-line, it has by and large been rejected, as this situation will be rectified as soon as the “trickle down effect” finally kicks in. /s
Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. [The more things change, the more they stay the same.] That this sentiment, written in 1849, is still applicable is proof of its truth.
This really hasn’t been the worst we’ve seen, and we’ve gotten through those times. I’m on a fixed income in an expensive state, and I’ve managed just fine.
Hell during the depression, you would have had people lining up to go through your garbage, If there is a civil war, you will have no garbage because 1. You’re afraid to go outside 2. You will not be able to find anything to buy 3. Money becomes worthless at best 4. The garbage workers don’t want to get shot especially when they are not being paid.
Here’s a thought – buy fresh produce, and real food and cut back on processed food that has more packaging and costs more. Maybe even grow your own vegetables and compost the peelings.
I see some price increase, but then again I don’t waste my money. I’m retired and on a pension and still save a good portion of my checks each month for vacations.
Joke of the Day: Lindsey Graham crying on camera about how the Democrats are “bleeding Trump dry” and that he spent so much on lawyers. Which might be true if Trump actually PAID his lawyers.
So come on MAGAs dig deep, empty your pockets even if you have to take food out of other children’s mouths to GIVE to support YOUR president. Come on, SAVE AMERICA, give at least one month’s rent money to his golf fund.
