They must fill up the time with useless blah blah for hours and hours to be able to work a few minutes.

Kind of like not giving morons a coffee brake because it takes too much time to retrain them.

Reality shows are all fake. Don’t waste your time. Make your own reality.

I look at American Idol but fast forward through most of it.

They remind me of the old 15 minute Soap Operas on the radio that my Grandmother used to listen to religiously.

And that, my liege, is one of many reasons I stopped watching broadcast TV.

That is why I DVR everything. Ha!

And then you are reminded that major network TV is totally broken.

TV shows are just to fill time between commercial breaks.

and et we still watch

Such fond memories of the sixties shows like Batman or Lost in Space. Who can forget the radio announcer coming on at the beginning saying. “As we left Batman and Robin last week our dynamic duo were about to get their gooses cooked locked up in a blast iron furnace by the Penguin! We join them now to see if Robin can keep his cool and escape to fly another day.” Or “Danger Will Robinson ! Tune in next week, SAME TIME SAME CHANNEL to see if Will survives certain death!” Nobody then complained. We all loved it.

What bothers me about “reality” TV is that they’re on at all. It says volumes about this country that they’re still on and watched by so many people.

Fortunately I don’t have to participate in the insanity.

I avoid what I call “un-reality TV” like the plague. I’d rather watch great classic TV shows on such channels as MeTV, Cozi TV, FETV, Catchy Comedy and Jewish Life TV.

And when you add in the commercials you get about 5 minutes of new content.

And this is part of the reason I don’t watch TV. I also don’t like the bombardment of ads for the things I don’t need or want. I also don’t like paying for 250 channels and not being able to find anything worth watching. I’d rather read a book any day.

I’m with Brutus. I really like “Highway Through Hell” and they do exactly what Brutus is talking about.

The best thing on TV is the on/off button.

I have become irked by observing this same phenomenon while watching show running on computer platforms (HBO, Netflix, Hulu, etc.). My contention is that because the producers and writers must think that most audience members are consumers of social media (YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, et al). Thier attention span is much shorter, and viewers must constantly be reminded of what they are watching! This practice also costs producers less money since they don’t have to film as much content to move the story along nor spend too much production value on developing plots. It also reduces the amount of output the writers must contribute. That’s just me of course. IMHO

So basically, nothing happens, over and over and over again.

What happened in the sixties can not be duplicated. Clean shows, variety hour shows etc

Ok this is what you do. You get a streaming service without ads. You can skip the recap and even the opening credits if you want. The only question is are you willing to pay extra for that privilege ?

My wife watches some of those shows. I just don’t see the attraction. If the people on those shows truly depict “reality” I’ll choose fantasy.

She is right…really right!

I’ve seen some documentaries like that. There was about 12 minutes of actual information in a 42min program.

The same tirade can be said for TV news programs spending time telling us what they’re going to tell us. DVR everything, especially during election season to skip ads.

I don’t watch those reality shows. I find them boring.

I won’t even try a reality show. I know they aren’t.

I had to fast forward through this comic.

People who watch those shows must have really bad short term memory.

“You know” continues Brutus, “I think it’s time to cut the cable, Wilberforce might be able to get Kanopy through his school library or FreeVee out of Amazon, but that has commercials , though neither charge for the service”…

The commercials and breaks are so long now. In one show recently I counted 26 commercials in a row. Another time, not counting, but watching the clock, there were just under 9 minutes of commercials between scenes of the show. The annoyance/entertainment ratio is rapidly tilting left.

And as long as we watch those waste of time shows with all their commercials, they will not change their winning format. That being said, I can’t see what Brutus gets out of them as he probably had an easier time with less made up drama, marrying his wife as they were High School sweethearts……

It’s the same time wasting crap with shows like Border security and Highway Cops etc. etc. etc. Here in the ‘Land Down Under’

There is nothing but Summer-time rubbist on free to air TV here. My wife likes to watch ‘House Hunters’ and I have said to her “Would you pay to go to the movies to watch that crap?” to which she replied “No way”. Read a good book instead or research some subject you like.

Know what I REALLY hate about stupid dating/screwing/amateur cooking/survival, etc reality shows? Someone made them in the first place and they got approved by idiotic and cheap TV executives.

Look at that! Y9u can’t post the words b17ch or danm but you can post screwing! Shows how utterly ridiculous Gocomics’ censorship system is!
