I’be been a teacher for over 30 years. Mostly in elementary, the last 10 in intermediate. Boys were perpetually falling in love with girls. I was startled at how very young the boys fell in love: kindergarten. The girls, not so much. It was when they became conscious of the high status society put on having a boyfriend that having a “boyfriend” and being in “love” became an object of desire. Usually around 6th or 7th grade.
As a child, I came up with the idea that throwing stones at a wasps’ nest would provide great amusement for me and my friends. No urging from a girl was necessary. The result was multiple stings on my face, similar to what Wallace The Brave received, as depicted in this strip.
