Appropriate cartoon with which to remember what happened exactly two years ago: REPUBLICAN Trump supporters carried out an extensively planned attempted ARMED, VIOLENT OVERTHROW of a full, fair and free election.

The plans for the insurrection had begun to be developed even before the election, as phone calls, testimony by insiders and even VIDEOTAPE conspiring to claim victory even if they clearly lost. They even had T-shirts and sweat shirts printed up in advance, touting “Civil War II” and other slogans in their plan for an ARMED VIOLENT INSURRECTION to overthrow the U.S. Capitol.

This week, they are observing the anniversary of their attempted ARMED VIOLENT COUP by again obstructing the U.S. Congress, only this time the call is coming from inside the House. Literally.

Today’s Republican fringe extremists, who have taken over the party, are even echoing Donald Trump’s plea from two years ago, when his ARMED MOB refused to go through the metal detectors after the saw firearms being confiscated at the magnetometers, as House Republicans have already voted for a rule change to remove the metal detectors that keep members safe from workplace violence from the House chamber.

Just as the Trumpublican armed violent attempted coup two years ago shocked the American people to the point that Republicans lost several state legislatures, several governorships, several secretaries of state, several attorneys general, lost numbers in the U.S. Senate and failed to produce the “Big Red Wave” that everyone expected, so once again the Republican fringe is going to remind the American people that they are incapable of competent governing.

Fitting tribute to the mess that started the day Sarah Palin was made a VP candidate. That was the most visible beginning of the end for the GOP. This is just evidence that the cancer was ignored and allowed to grow. That party represents the ugliest part of America and it needs to be exorcised.

I saw an interesting piece from Beau of the fifth column on YouTube. Dems could go, as a group, to McCarthy. tell him that if he makes a public speech on the house floor that he will, eliminate ALL the concessions he made to the insurrection caucus, promise to work towards bipartisan legislation, raise the threshold for a vote of no confidence to 25 members(undercutting the insurrection caucus’s hold on him) then the Dems will give him the votes he needs to be speaker. Now, my first reaction was “like he’d keep his promise” but here’s the thing. First by making his promises public if he fails to keep them he looks even weaker than he does now. With the 25 member vote of no confidence the dems could pull the rug out from under him at any time, and the best part is the insurrectionists become the outliers rather than holding McCarthy and the house hostage. After the current debacle MC has no incentive to appease them much less support their insanity. The war between the “sane” republicans and the insane ones would give the Dems enormous leverage which they would not have if the repugs remain a solid block. Sure he takes some heat from the Reich but with the Dems dangling their support he only really needs to keep about 10-20 repugs to keep his power making working with the moderates on the left a much easier a call for him.

    Anyway it’s just a thought. if you’re interested here’s the videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA2tPK4-7Ok

Or, get a bunch of sane Republicans to walk out when it’s time to vote and let Jeffries be voted in by a majority of those in attendance.

Who knew that on and about the anniversary of such a heinous day in our history that so many of the party that instigated and still has members who support the insurrection would effectively be lynching themselves?

Until all the participants are culled from federal, state, and local government positions, these nihilists will continue trying different ways to fulfill their ultimate goal… the end of our democratic republic.

Wait, let me get this straight. They can’t swear in new members until a speaker is chosen, but those new (presumably unsworn) members get to vote on who’s supposed to be speaker? Isn’t this some kind of logical fallacy?

An alphabet for the new Congress, spelled out by outgoing Speaker Hakeem Jeffries:

But I also want to make clear that we will never compromise our principles. House Democrats will always put:

    American values over autocracy.

    Benevolence over bigotry.

    The Constitution over the cult.

    Democracy over demagogues.

    Economic opportunity over extremism.

    Freedom over fascism!

    Governing over gaslighting.

    Hopefulness over hatred.

    Inclusion over isolation.

    Justice over judicial overreach.

    Knowledge over kangaroo courts.

    Liberty over limitation.

    Maturity over Mar-a-Lago.

    Normalcy over negativity.

    Opportunity over obstruction.

    People over politics.

Quality of life issues over Q-Anon.

    Reason over racism.

    Substance over slander.

    Triumph over tyranny.

    Understanding over ugliness.

    Voting rights over voter suppression.

    Working families over the well-connected.

    Xenial over xenophobia.

“Yes we can” over “You can’t do it.”

And — Zealous representation over zero-sum confrontation.
