What people forget is all the stuff the government does FOR you. If many of the services you take for granted were not paid for by the government they’d have to be paid for some other way, directly out of your pocket, and they definitely would cost more, like, say places where fire protection is provided by a for-profit company by subscription only.
Danged U.S. government – ‘cept for the one with George Washington and the Constitution & Declaration, which kicked the king’s behind.
Oh, and that one with Abraham Lincoln that outlawed slavery and saved the country was ok.
Of course givin’ everybody the right to vote looks pretty good, so those ones were alright too.
And you gotta like the ones who settled the hash in two world wars and the depression.
Since then, all the U.S. governments seem to be creeping closer & closer to the edge of that slippery slope – the one that leads down, down, down to the brink of the point of no return…
True Democracy – all provisions in the Bill of Rights observed, each citizen with the same identical protections and considerations, crazy strict bans on excess money in elections, and proportional representation in Congress.

He started the hate yer guv’ment thing, which led to the the DINO Clinton the thieving and lying Dubya and, yes Trump. Trump was the logical next step down. If the traitor (AKA It) had never made this traitorous statement we would still have a government that works. Conservatives in general, don’t like even the idea of democracy. It gave them what they wanted.
‘Let’s do that!’ Internet cheers Republican warning that Supreme Court Justices’ tax returns could go public
Republicans are outraged that after three years, Democrats will release Donald Trump’s taxes.
But one Republican lawmaker was mocked after delivering a stern warning, insisting with no basis that should Democrats choose to release Trump’s taxes, that would open the floodgates, allowing the tax returns of ordinary citizens, or even the tax returns of Supreme Court justices to be made public. “Going forward, the majority chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee will have nearly unlimited power to target and make public the tax returns of private citizens. And not just private citizens. Political enemies, business and labor leaders, or even the returns of Supreme Court justices themselves,” U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, Republican of Texas, said, falsely.
Brutal CNN supercut shows all the times Trump vowed he’d release his taxes
On Tuesday, following the vote by the House Ways and Means Committee to release former President Donald Trump’s tax returns to the public, CNN anchor John Berman offered a key reminder that Trump himself had promised to do this himself, repeatedly, years ago — although, Berman noted, even then, he seemed to be looking for a way out of having to do it.“What is beyond question is when it comes to voluntarily releasing his taxes, the way every president and most presidential candidates have done since President Nixon, Donald Trump gave voters in the 2016 campaign the bait and switch,” said Berman. “Because even as he was promising to release his taxes, he still managed to sprinkle in a few escape clauses here and there. In addition, some of his problems is the release of his returns overlapped with his excuses for not releasing them. It’s all a bit of a mess. That said, here’s the promise.”
GOP congressman who questioned 2020 election results illegally voted in three elections
According to publicly available voter records, Georgia GOP Rep. Drew Ferguson voted in a county where he no longer lives, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ferguson, who has voiced concerns in the past about election fraud, voted in person in Troup County during early voting for this year’s May primary, the November general election and this month’s U.S. Senate runoff after selling his house in April. As AJC points out, it’s illegal in Georgia for voters to cast a ballot in a county where they don’t live.
Marjorie Taylor Greene calls out Matt Gaetz in new op-ed as battle with fellow Republicans escalates
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) called out Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-GA) as she continued shoring up support for Kevin McCarthy as House speaker. The Georgia Republican attacked Gaetz, a former ally who has pledged to oppose McCarthy’s leadership bid, in a new op-ed for the conservative Daily Caller website, after feuding publicly with another ally, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), over the speaker race.

Democracy and Fascism — like logic and emotions, or Democrats and Reptilicans — have NOTHING in common.
Good on Jen (always insightful, and 100% on-target here) for pointing this out in a clear and succinct way.
