Republicans don’t give a sh!t whether they have a mandate, ever since Bush II.

They invaded Iraq as if they had a mandate, even though they LOST the popular vote.

I’m pretty sure it was Newt Gingrich who first proclaimed a mandate when the then GOP won by a few percentage points, about 30 years ago. Wasn’t any more true then than it is now.

This is nothing new. Any time a party gains power, even if it’s by a very thin margin, they say they have a mandate. Maybe they think if they say if often enough, it’ll be true.
