He is a Catholic. And that sequence of stated beliefs is both reasonable and appropriate for a person who is growing up. Not to mention a person who’s a political pro and thus has a strong inclination to say what’s currently popular.

Believe it or not, some Dem POTUS’s have over time developed a more sophisticated world perspective. Barack Obama said his stance over LGBTQ “evolved” to where he supported same sex marriage. Rethugicans? Not so much.

Perhaps he fell under the spell of the Catholic hierarchy, then realized the separation of church and state. I’m the same staunch Catholic as I was at the time of McCorvey vs Wade, but I also thought that it is not the business of the state to legislate private morality, which includes divorce, contraception, and ethanol.

What the public wants is in no way represented by the people in DC elected to represent them, most of the time. Why is it so hard to keep their oath of office and support the US Constitution that separates church from state?

    Ted is an idiot

If he truely believe people cant change over 40 years than he belongs to the republican party of goonies with backward view of life and the world generally

Biden (and Liz warren) are literally the definition of being able to change beliefs over time both were extremely Conservative at least even if they aren’t not super progressive (at least biden isnt) but being able to adapt is something the GOP CANT COMPREHEND

If ted believe people stay the same they were born then I affirm my earlier statment that hes an idiot

It’s actually very simple: Observe their actions.

    - Biden says he will codify Roe v. Wade. It has turned out to be a pivotal issue for many Americans, given that roughly two-thirds of Americans approve of abortion. He knows where the votes are.

    - Numerous GOP members say they will enact a national anti-Roe law. Some, e.g., the Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania, want to put women in jail for murder if they get an abortion.

    - While a number of GOP members are clearly shocked that their long-term appeal to right-wing nut job “Christians” worked so well, they are not backing away, but doubling down.

    - People’s opinions can change. The question is which way? And it does not matter what Biden “actually” believes if he acts differently. The same is true of many Republicans who disliked #45 but now support him absolutely.

I’d rather bet on Biden than the GOP.

Let’s shove aside your promoted Republican mantra you insist you don’t follow, Ted, and try and accept the fact people can and do grow out of hateful and stupid and embarrassing points of view. As an example, I voted for Regan the first time he ran for President, and I will regret that decision for the rest of my life.

What counts now is what and who President Biden is today, and if he and the Democrat Party are willing to restore a woman’s right to their bodily autonomy.

I’m not the same person I was 10 or 20 years ago…and I have beliefs and political positions that have changed significantly over time as I have gained life experience. In fact, 20 years ago, I was on the fence about abortion rights. Now I am staunchly pro-choice. Anyone who remembers their younger self as being basically the same person they are now is enjoying a delusion.

Regardless, I believe people’s actions a lot more than what they say…or promise. So let’s see what 2022 Biden does. He has shown in the past an ability to evolve. Remember how he made a supportive statement for gay marriage before even Obama did?

Now I would never do that as I have gained life experience. Somehow Ted doesn’t believe me, I guess as no one in his experience has ever changed their minds. I doubt I can change Ted’s.

Here’s the Republican “platform.” They won’t write it down because too many voters might read it, so I did it for them. Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote. In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming. Of course, a country of 300-plus million Americans requires a larger government than one with only 5.3 million Americans. Please don’t worry about how “small government” works with regulating what goes on in your bedroom, or prohibiting women (still citizens as far as I know) from crossing state lines for medical care. Nevertheless, in pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their “Jeffersonian” America

    1. No women’s rights.

    2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups.

    3. No immigration, other than Caucasians.

    4. No labor unions.

    5. No health insurance.

    6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts.

    7. No social security.

    8. No disability insurance.

    9. No minimum wage.

    10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections).

    11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools.

    12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts.

    13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections. Continued…

    Republican “platform”, continued.

    14. No free press.

GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Republican leaders don’t care if America dies as long as they can feed off the carcass for their lifetimes. How many Americans would have to die or be virtually enslaved in jobs with less than living wages for this “platform” to work? Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime? VOTE, AND VOTE BLUE!

Ah, yes, the ol’ flip-flopper admonishment.

If one changes one’s mind it is a sign not of evaluating feedback and instituting an improvement to a previous condition, or of overcoming indoctrination imposed from childhood, of intellectual growth, of reason overcoming any number of externally imposed obstacles.

    No. Nope. No sir.

One either always intuitively occupies the absolute purity position (which always absolutely exists, right, Christians? Right, many other religions? Right, Bolsheviks/Fidel Castro/Pol Pot Cambodia/Mao and every Chinese leader since/every other authoritarian/totalitarian regime ever?), or one does not.

The selection set is always right vs wrong, black vs white, us(well, ME actually) vs them(anyone who does not agree with ME.

The Rall binary world. Not the only brain ever to process information in this fashion (unfortunately).

Flip-flopper’s welcome only if they agree to abstain from the red pill.
