You are differentiating between 2 different classification systems. Fruit, in this instance is botanical, while vegetable is a culinary term, not a scientific one.

Fruit is the womb of some vegetation. Jalapeños are fruit. too. They go good on pizza with pineapple.

So nobody here has heard of nightshade vegetables?

supreme court classified this fruit as vegetable in 1893 so it could be taxed
