I think my granddaughter was about his age when I said kumquat, and she thought it was a naughty word

This arc just doesn’t seem to have star fruit power. ;-)

Okay. I’m pretty sure this whole story line was a ruse to get the word Kumquat into the strip. …well done sir. Well done indeed.

Out of a dark alley a low demanding voice – “Hand over your homework kid, or the Kumquat get it.” (The dog eating it excuse didn’t work before, so you need to amp it up.)

You could say they were all infected by rabid fruit flies that escaped from a government research weapons facility. You will also need to create a new super hero to save the day. Write on Tarantino, write on…..

The dad is good for encouraging his kids. They all seem to have an artistic gene running through them.

Backstories only matter if the author shares the backstory, uses it to affect the character the reader sees, or both.

In the Harry Potter books, Snape’s backstory was important to shaping his character even before Harry learned what the story was. The part of Dumbledore’s backstory that was revealed to the reader was important, too, but mostly AFTER Harry learned it, because it really didn’t shape his character much.

The part of Dumbledore’s backstory that was not shared with the reader (being in love with Grindlewald) was utterly irrelevant to a person reading the books. Play through the events of the book with and without that element of the backstory, and it changes neither Dumbledore’s personality nor his motives. Plus, Harry knows nothing of his teachers’ personal lives, so they are all asexual as far as he is concerned.

Edgy and moody? Does it end with the kids in a Mexican standoff, pointing corers/peelers at each other?

I’d like to see Chuck Palahniuk do this story.
