On the other hand, there are plenty of new Hollywood movies that glamorize the extreme use of powerful guns by criminals and police alike. Last night I watched “Matrix IV,” probably a far extreme example.
It has the virtue (?) of showing incredible gun and explosives mayhem without much resultant blood. And it appeals to young people who have not served in the military and seen the actual damage such weapons do.
And I suppose the gun lobby is ecstatic to see the trend continue — as it has in Westerns at the movies and on TV, unrelentingly since at least the 1940s, where each program had a special firearm the heroes used.
So maybe Family Night playing “Old Maid” is not such a bad idea — but don’t blame “Libs” for making that choice appealing. So many great and popular works of literature serve as lessons and guides to proper morality and social behavior — even the great individual national sagas that drip gore and destruction.
In many such cases, gods and powerful kings supposedly superior to men instigate the conflicts. Is not very similar today?
From a totally non political perspective what passes for entertainment and music these days are not what I want to see or hear. I want to go to the movies to be entertained, not depressed or angered. And I want to hear music performances in which I can understand the words being sung, not just noise.
In 1960 our TV broke and mom didn’t get it fixed for 2 years – best two our family had as we played games together and less fighting. Mom said she regrets having it fixed.
No racism, climate change, or the fact women have no control over their bodies, maybe the parents need to do binge-watching, read a newspaper, or go back to school
Movies have ALWAYS represented the values of modern culture… the only reason you didn’t notice in the past was that it matched your views. It was just as blatant then as it is now.
Well, let’s see. Netflix has 3,781 movies available; Disney channel has 110; Showtime has 500; HBO Max has 2000+. Surely something should satisfy Goodwyns Family Movie Night Needs. Unless, of course, there’s any interest The Life and Times of Donald Trump. But that certainly would not pass the family night morality test.
Honestly, I’d rather play Monopoly (aka “Monotony”) than watch 99% of the available movies. And y’know that Hollywood is a cesspit in many ways, but you DO realize that they’re in it entirely for the money, right? So if they’re making “virtue signalling” or “gender confusion” movies that’s because they think such things will get a lot of viewers. (I can think of a Shakespeare play or several that could be classified those ways.)
These parents are one of many families following this mantra, “Go Woke, get broke”. We want to watch movies with entertainment, not liberal activism. These movies are meant to confuse children to become liberal activists, which then leads to them being a liberal. It’s the way Democrats are tying to steal the elections for years to come. Have you seen Disney lately? They aren’t the innocent kids movies we all grew up watching? Let’s take Buzz as an example. The movie was supposed to be set in 1995, which is the year Andy wanted Buzz, right? If there was no liberal, woke bias, it should have been at the least a decent movie, right. But no, they had to have a homosexual kiss. If a real movie in 1995 had that, Disney would have gone out of business, or out of its “top dog” spot. They had to add almost a Marvel spinoff to it. They had to make Buzz into a very unlikable character. Also, very boring movie. To all those conservatives reading this, don’t watch this movie!. These may not be problems for you liberals reading and commenting, but it is for the largest money giver of all; parents. Or, should I say domestic terrorists? Reply what is better. (I wouldn’t be surprised if Lightyear is one of the worst Pixar movies ever, when it’s all said and done).

AL doesn’t appear to have any experience with entertainment besides himself in his own isolated universe.

There’s a great range of choice available in theaters and on TV, from Christian flicks to the usual fare. But conservatives hate choice…

I suspect something with lots of gun violence and death would’ve been fine with them.

Well, while I would love to have a card game over just about any movie, I’d love to watch a movie about the perils of climate change.
