So many times I think something is a reasonable price, but when tax, shipping and handling is added, I say no thank you. Anyone else remember when shipping was based on weight, not price?

Did that yesterday after church. Went to buy a small box of ginger snap cookies and it was $7.00. I put it back. Today, I’ll bake my own.

Learning the difference between “want” and “need" makes shopping so much easier.

I have pretty much not shopped for anything not essential for about 5 years. Now I am glad I got in the habit!

Reminds me of my mom who was allotted 20 dollars for our weekly groceries. We ate pretty well too.

Early on in life, I discovered that I have very expensive taste. However, with the help of thrift and resale shops, I’m able to indulge. When I can get a “like new” shirt on eBay for $19 when it cost $89 new, I’m happy. Last week, I bought a phone cover from Amazon Warehouse for $17, when it was selling new for $79, and the cover was in perfect condition. There are lots of great bargains out there if one is persistent and has the patience to look for them.

I pretty much have a price I am willing to pay for almost anything. It’s usually below what most other people are willing to pay.

Even though I am affluent enough to afford many things, there are a lot of things that I can do without.

My wife and I are bad Americans. We are poor consumers. We tend not to buy things unless we actually need them and have never needed the “latest and greatest.”

I wish my husband would do that. He just spends money like there is no tomorrow. I don’t care if he is almost 70, the people in his family live into their 90’s and care is not cheap, so we need to save money. His mother is still alive and the costs of her care are well beyond what we could ever afford for ourselves.

I’ve gotten great bargains at yard sales and thrift stores, but sometimes, if I’m not really sure that I need or want the item, I’ll hang on to it and mull for a while, as I continue shopping. About half the time I end up putting it back.
