Maybe, their company should sign a sponsorship deal with Reebok®.

Did they just get back that morning or didn’t they feel like talking to Alex? Ok, I know, explaining the plot to readers. It’s just very clunky this time. It usually isn’t.

Good luck finding a running shoe that wasn’t made in an Asian sweatshop.

I don’t believe I have ever actually seen a boycott work. I am sure they do sometimes, but I have just never seen it happen.

Calling the boss, and/or the boss’ wife, “Babe”. I guess they were not woke yet…

Boycotting Nike is a great idea, but destroying already-purchased shoes accomplishes nothing and I thought Kim was smart enough that she wouldn’t need to be told that.

Walking around in Nike shoes — shoes with the word “Nike” prominently displayed — constitutes “advertising” for Nike shoes. If Web Guy has covered not just the swoosh but the word “Nike”, he’s one step (no pun intended) ahead of Kim.

My sneakers clearly say “made in an Asian sweatshop” so there is no ambiguity

Original date of today’s strip was June 24, 1997. So if anyone wants to know what will happen in this story, they can use the date box menu to take a look ahead.

Does anyone know if the anti-Nike boycott had any effect? Is Nike still doing the same in this 21st century?

wonder if she would be so upset about with sweat-shop factories in Vietnam if her relative wasn’t one of the workers being captive by one of them.

OK, here we are in 2022. My hip surgery went well. What running shoes can I buy now that were made by labor treated reasonably fairly, ideally outside China? (This is a serious question.)

Unless people complain, the draconian conditions will continue. People say they aren’t for slavery, but are perfectly willing to have someone work for 10 cents a day making shoes for them – as long as they can pretend they did not know about it.
