The theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli somehow achieved a reputation for “The Pauli Effect” which meant that when he was around experiments tended to not work. One story is that there was a lab explosion at the University of Göttingen which could not be explained until someone found out that the train Pauli was on was passing through town at the time.
Well, we physicists like to confirm theories and so some fellows decided to make a demonstration. As with Horace, they placed a bucket of water over the door that Pauli would enter to give a lecture. All waited in anticipation…
Pauli walks in …. and the bucket does not fall!
He sees the surprise on their faces and looks around and sees the bucket. He grins and says, “See! Pauli Effect!”
Doubt that it is really a true story, but it is a good one from George Gamow.

And if there’d been one more row, Horace would try to pull a rabbit out of a hat while Sine says, “Again?”
