Horse shift. Somewhere between 60% and 80% of all voters want to keep abortion universally available; the numbers vary depending on exactly how the question is asked.
Roe v Wade used Griswold v. Connecticut and Eisenstadt v. Baird as precedent. These cases blocked states from banning birth control. Many Repubs, e.g. Marsha Balckburn and all Repub candidates for AG in Michigan, are looking to overturn these rulings too. Birth control is the best way to reduce the need for abortion.
If those Repubs get their way and birth control gets banned, what happens to women that use the Pill for medical conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, etc.? Remember when Sandra Fluke testified to Congress about this need for her fellow college students and Rush called her a slut?
The problem Chipper is America is not a democracy, but a republic. Unless abortion was decided by a national vote, the undemocratic structure of the Senate – and amending the Constiution – means 30% of Americans can and do decide the fate of 100% of Americans…and the cabal of 5 Supreme Court Justices know this very well.
Not the voters but the state legislatures which due to gerrymandering are dominated by republicans in a large majority of the states. In purple Wisconsin for example with Roe gone abortion will revert to the original 1842 law that outlawed it and with a republican dominated legislature there is 0 chance it will be modified.
Alito thinks the “domestic supply of infants” is too low
Feels like this has been largely overlooked, but Alito’s draft Supreme Court opinion on abortion uses the phrase “domestic supply of infants.” It’s real, on page 34. DOMESTIC SUPPLY OF INFANTS.
Now that is some bullshit. That goes with – if she didn’t want to be raped she shouldn’t have worn a mini skirt.
The three Trump judges were pushed through in the most undemocratic way possible. Those three justices in no way represent mainstream America. They are religious ideologues put there specifically to overturn Roe v Wade, which is supported by an majority of Americans.
The reactionary right fixed it so the will of the people does not matter.
Apologists keep bringing up famously bad Supreme Court decisions (Dred Scott, Plessy) that were deservedly struck down. But what’s different this time is that reversing Roe is taking away a constitutional right. And the same will be true if the court gets the bit between its teeth and goes on to strike down Griswold, Casey, and Obergefell.
This is a prime example of how the Democrats and extreme left take what is essentially a non issue, blow it out of proportion and use it to spread their divisive propaganda and disinformation. They are desperate to have an issue heading into the midterm elections so stoop to underhanded methods, ‘leak’ privileged information then go into hysterics.
The well known screed of Democrats ‘never let a crisis go to waste’ has an addendum of ‘if we need a crisis then we’ll make one’. This is certainly the case with the underhanded ‘leak’ of the Alito draft. In the SCOTUS there are usually two opposing drafts outlining the pro and cons of the legal matter in question. So how about the draft opposing Alito’s position and supporting RvW be released? Oh no, can’t have that as it would take the wind from the sails of the fake Democrats crisis.
So to put this issue into proper perspective, the SCOTUS has made NO decision on this issue. They have a case before them which involves the constitutionality of Roe vs Wade. One side of the issue has been criminally leaked in order to generate a political crisis. Considering the history of RvW, there is a very good chance that when the decision comes down it will not be overturned. This is all just manufactured nonsense by unscrupulous Democrats who basically don’t give a whit about RvW or abortion except as it’s use as a divisive issue against Republicans especially in the upcoming elections.
Why is it that when people are actually shown babies in the womb sucking their thumbs or reacting to pain, or actually being aborted, that almost all become converts to pro-life?
Frankfreak about 4 hours ago
Because that happens after the first trimester when more stringent abortion protocols take effect.
The voters DO want to protect abortion rights. But our perverted system allows these lunatics to hold power without even being close to having a majority of Americans behind them.
Justice Thomas: “We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want.” Bernie Sanders press secretary Briahna Joy Gray: “Bully them harder.” Anyone who’s smarter than a Democrat: “I think this bullying is going make the Court dig in even harder.”
The statement isn’t undemocratic. It’s disingenuous is what it is, because the GOP isn’t asking the voters to decide. The voters overwhelmingly want abortion to remain legal and available, in at least some form, but in 18 states, once Roe v Wade is overturned, it will immediately become illegal. Voters won’t be asked to determine the fate of abortion access. They never have. Instead, they’re asked to vote for candidates that will support law and order, lower taxes, balanced budgets, etc. And then those candidates go and whittle away at abortion access. That’s how the GOP has been doing it for years. And it’s been working. Until now, they’ve had to do it very carefully, but now they have the right people in place in the SCOTUS, and suddenly they can move fast and actually rip rights away fast, before people have time to vote them out.
The majority of Americans did not vote for the people that put the conservative hack justices, that would impose their beliefs on women, in their positions. The electoral college has stolen democracy from the majority. The majority of Americans support a women’s right to choose.
We the people do not want abortion criminalized to appease radicalized Christians. That is Christians Without Christ. Jesus never said anything about abortion, ever.
what’s undemocratic is that the old wealthy white guys party….aka repulselicans are actively and deliberately making it harder for american to vote..especially if those americans are of color…or poor.. or lean democratic… or live inner cities …or are native american…under the guise of ‘mass illegal voting’….which in the tRumplican party means… people don’t vote for the old white racist candidates we support….. and it is only going to get worse as many state repuselicans have hijacked and perverted how voting will be allowed…including make it harder to drop off ballots …limitations on mail in voting….repressive voter id laws…and even making sure no one gives a voter standing in line a bottle of water…. and the pu$$y grabber in chief…and lapdog closeted lindsey..moscow mitch…cancun lyin ted an the rest of their ilk spread any lie which will keep them in power….
To again misquote—“What we’ve got here is failure to ‘read.’” The tenth amendment clearly draws a line dealing with Federal and State prohibitions and rights. And then throws in “to the people.” I don’t see that private medical decisions should have any reason for intervention by government other than being covered by “health and safety” concerns.

Some basic rights should not be subject to vote—for instance, a majority should not be able to vote a minority into slavery.
