I’m afraid that when the dam breaks we will surely be in the world that George Orwell wrote about in “1984”.

In America the news has always been a commercial enterprise and thus has reflected the conflict between the mission to deliver some accurate version of truth and the need to be a profitable operation.

Except that the MSM is largely just a bunch of stenographers for the US government. When it’s gotten to the point that Sy Hersh can’t get published in the US, you know we’re screwed.

My own experience with most reporters of all stripes over the years is they include only comments and selective facts that support the story they want to write.

Behind lies there is generally religious, political or self-serving economic fanatism.

Chris Wallace may have a point.

News is better when appropriately distanced from the profit motive. TV news used to be considered a public service, not a source of significant revenue.

I’d rather the programs provide the news – not try to tell me what to think.

I’ll make up my OWN opinions, thank you very much.

    To paraphrase Mr Paul Simon:

“When I look back at all the crap I’d learned on Fox “News”,

    It’s a wonder I can think at all . . ."

Fox News Fox News was the most watched cable news channel in America for the sixth consecutive year in 2021. Fox averaged 1.3 million in total day viewers this year, compared to 919,000 at MSNBC and 787,000 watching CNN.

Fox lies to the right wing peons for profit.

Remember when Dan Rather got fired for reporting that Dubya scammed his way out of serving in Vietnam? He was fired for telling the truth. The respected academic, Kevin Phillips in his book, “American Theocracy”, written prior to Rather’s firing, had at least an entire chapter detailing how Dubya avoided Vietnam. It was exactly what Rather had reported. Mr. Philips’ book provided even more information. The rich look out for each other, America be damned.
