Back rider driver. If he does not like it maybe he should stop riding with his mom.

Darn. After that first panel, I queued up the theme to Gorge of the Jungle.

In the 1970s and ‘80s, Schulz’s only idea for Rerun in the strip was the running gag with the bicycle. It wasn’t until the mid-‘90s that Rerun became a major character who hid under the bed to avoid going to school and who was always asking Charlie Brown whether he may “borrow” his dog.

And with Lucy and Linus as your siblings, what an interesting life it would be!

While strollers and backpacks are probably OK as child transportation, I’ll bet most tots riding the fender seat of a bike are probably seeing their lives passing before their eyes.

Rerun doesn’t want to ride the bike, but his mother makes him. He has no say in the matter.

Sometimes you have to just listen to that backseat driver.

My favorite Rerun bit has always been, “INTO THE VALLEY OF DEATH RODE THE SIX HUNDRED!”

How are Linus and Lucy still alive with parents like that?

Reminds me of the scene in Silver Streak where Gene Wilder is in the back seat of the biplane with the crazy old lady piloting. “Look out for the windmill! LOOK OUT FOR THE WINDMILL!!!”

This was me as a tot. Luckily my Mum was very sensible, and there wasn’t much traffic. But it was still pretty gripping watching the world go by at high speed!

Your ongoing sanity depended on faith in the rider up front. You could probably say that I was in training to trust my forever “Rider up front”, the Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” John 10:11

I think that some of this comes from I want a dog for Christmas Charlie Brown.

My son still remembers the ride on the back of my bicycle. He’s 50. Says it traumatized him. If he can remember , then I guess he was traumatized.

If you wanted to grow up and have a life of your own, you shouldn’t have been a Peanuts character.
