In the beginning America was powered by wood and lit by candles. Benjamin Franklin’s father was a candle maker. Benjamin became world famous experimenting with electricity.

Water powered our nascent, primitive factories. Mills were first powered by rivers and later by steam. Entire forests were cleared to provide the power for the mills. At one time farmers would leave cords of wood along America’s river, to be picked up by steamboat captains who would leave a bag of money behind in payment. Then we dug deep and fed our engines coal. Did we ever try to say that we should support the wood cutters? No. We gave them a shovel and sent them to the mines. And the factory owners went to the bank.

At one time whaling was a thriving portion of New England and international trade. Now it is scarcely remembered as a quaint, old fashioned way of life. Do we miss it? Did we fight desperately to keep it? No. Something better came along and we grew.

Our nations engines begin to grow more powerful. More commonplace. We needed a better source of fuel. Along came John Rockefeller and quenched our thirst for oil. Rockefeller, who made the abstract economic idea of monopoly a real, concrete way of American business. Rockefeller took turns drowning us in oil and starving us for it until the government moved to push him back. Not shut him down, just, relax your grip a bit, John. Don’t be too greedy.

America always used to be able to move on. When it became time to innovate and grow, we did. We were smart enough to be able to retool our machines and our lives to accept new ideas and be able to work with them.

The energy industry can’t figure out how to regulate the sun. How to tie it into a profit plan. How can we limit it and gouge profits if the energy is renewable?

And We, the People, are so ignorant, cowardly and afraid of change, we are going to allow the greed and lust for profit of the energy industry to hold us back.

They aren’t smart enough to profit from renewable energy.

There is clearly a collaboration & alliance among Russia, the republican Party, the NRA, Murdoch enterprises & the fossil fuel industry(Koch, ALEC) all of which are doing their utmost to destroy American democracy, weaken American power, weaken Western alliances, & make the West dependent on oil, gas & coal.

We need to view all of these entities as clear threats & enemies of the USA & act accordingly. We also need to deny security clearances to all Republicans who have an connection with Russia — especially Moscow Mitch and the seven repugs that went to Russia for the 4th of July.

The survival of a unified American democracy & a livable planet literally depends on our successfully combating these forces.

Will some Republican out there please define what they mean by “woke”? I only see the far right using it as a derogatory term. Are the Republicans not “woke”? If that’s the case, I would prefer they just go back to sleep.

In any endeavor there are people who do nothing but brainstorm ideas such as these, and some of the ideas become so twisted that no one else can figure them out. Yet somehow the more twisted they are, the more likely they are to become laws or at least regulations. We can’t to anything about it because; 1. we don’t understand them, 2. the politicians won’t admit they don’t understand them, and 3. there’s a whole buncha money involved.

    Nicely done, Jen.

Some believe that the wealth chasm classes cannot get any bigger yet it grows as does the threat to the environment. This is not good for calm and stability in the future if hunger and homelessness keep expanding because of greedy sociopaths who design laws to return us to the age of serfdoms.

Has everyone ordered their black shirts and jackboots? Makes it easier to pass when the drooling mouth-breathing knuckle-walking orange cult mobs with pitchforks and tiki torches start marauding.

I think a lot more financial institutions are moving out of fossil fuels because they’re a bad long-term investment than because they’re “woke.”

Why do oil companies hate banks making their own decisions in a free market? They must hate capitalism.

“ALEC” is probably a tax free ‘charity’, which means no government oversight.
