America isn’t a democracy and never was. It’s a constitutional federal republic. Maybe if Americans would take a civics class and actually learn something, they’d know that.
The US is a constitutional quasi-democratic republic with a politically popularized faction promoting states’ rights over a federal government. Engineered elections — gerrymandering, limiting access, etc — in individual states demonstrate the lack of federal control as does the decades of dysfunctional Congresses which weakens the republic.
Arguing about the precise definition of democracy – certified – guaranteed – legally binding – double rectified and busthead true – adds nothing to the point being made, serving only as a shameful distraction from the critical problem now at hand.
The ideal that all U.S. citizens are equal, with identical rights, and with equal say at the polls – regardless of rich or poor, newly sworn or Mayflower ancestored, race-creed-color, etc – is under direct attack. By Republicans.
Should that most precious of all American ideals fall, there is no insurance that will redeem our loss.
Times change. Trying to stop America at rich white ‘o clock by destroying the one truly worthy ideal we have is insane. The Constitution, via our courts, can help prevent this, but mostly it’s up to the people. Vote.

Extreme gerrymandering, voter suppression, and election subversion. And it’s all right out in the open because they know dems will do nothing to stop them.

One of our Founding Fathers, Franklin, maybe, said it. ‘We have given you a Republic, but can you keep it?’.

Republicans want a right wing dictator, not democracy.

I’m sure it might be covered under my accidental death and dismemberment policy if I’m dead or lose one thumb, a toe , voting rights, etc . . .

Insurance is what you pay for but hope never to have to use. Prevention is always preferable to cure.
