I still thin k that Manchin wanted to be a republican, but they wouldn’t have him, so he ran as a Democrat.

I think Manchin just likes the attention he gets from being so contrary.

That’s the problem when you have a party of diverse, independent thinkers, instead of a party of Clone Troopers, programmed to toe the party line. It takes more effort.

Just spitballing here but I’m guessing that if McConnell takes over the Senate in 2022 with a 2+ margin combined with the failure of the infrastructure and voter rights bills, Manchin will have to go into hiding or live as a virtual prisoner in some luxurious gated Republican compound.

Every once in a great while there is a true leader who represents all the people of his state — and does NOT just follow the irrational politicized public perception of how things should be — but Manchin is NOT one of these. Disinformation inspired perception trumps patriotism all too often.

Manchin does not behave like a " team player " – more like an obstructionist , using the basically tied situation to make himself really important , re: any chance of the dems actually passing legislation. If the numbers were different , he should be expelled from the dems party as a disloyal member !!
