“Right-wing pundits form task force to take on the Taliban. Taking all volunteers that are concerned about the people of Afghanistan. Bring your AR-15s and any other weapons you have. Training will be provided on flight. Financed by “billionaire” Donald Trump."
Afghanistan wasn’t/isn’t our problem, 20 years ago, 10 years ago or now.
Trump heroically surrendered to the Taliban. Biden cravenly recognized the consequences and refused to waste more American soldiers’ lives. And Henry Payne leaned on his horn.
It’s a false presumption that anyone could have just strolled out of Afghanistan with no interference from the Taliban…just not who they are. I think it went better than it could have…
But even in the midst of the worst stretch of the Biden presidency thus far, the lure of misinformation has proved irresistible to its GOP critics.
They’ve trafficked repeatedly in recent days in false, misleading or unproved allegations involving the Taliban hanging someone from an American helicopter, President Biden skipping a ceremony for 13 Americans killed last week, military dogs being left behind, and $80 billion in military equipment being left for use by the Taliban. With the assistance of some high-profile conservatives and even congressional Republicans, these reports have proliferated on social media.
Yeah cause the last 20 years went so well under two Republican and one Democratic presidents. Ugh you Conservatives are such propagandists and hypocrites.
Biden has not been saying it went well. But he has been finger pointing a lot…which is far more worthy of criticism…as opposed to criticizing him for things he didn’t actually do.
Biden did not say it went well. But I will say it indeed went well. No one thought we could get all Americans out when the Taliban took Kabul in 11 days. Biden gave the order, the military carried out the mission and completed it. All but under 100 Americans who wanted to leave are out, along with some 150,000 Afghans. We lost 13 American soldiers in the evacuation, all heroes. Biden is hunting down and killing those responsible. Yes, I’d say it went well after tRump surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban putting all of our people in harm’s way.
Trump gave away Afghanistan for the promise by the Taliban to not attack US forces. Trump wanted US forces out by May 1 and derided Biden for taking longer. As of Jan 15, 2021 there were only 2500 US troops in Afghanistan.
Trump made no deal about getting US citizens out of Afghanistan. It was only about troops. I’m sure Trump didn’t give a rat’s butt about anything other than getting troops out. At best, he (and Biden) seemed to think the Afghan army would fight and hold off the Taliban. Apparently a lot of people in Afghanistan thought that too, and so they did not get out early. The chaos of the last month has less to do with the troop withdrawal, and more to do with the sudden desertion of the Afghan Army.
Given how rapidly the Taliban seized most of Afghanistan, sending back US troops would have accomplished little except get more troops killed.
Oh, and about Bagram Air Base. Bagram air base is an hour and a half from Kabul. Defending Bagram would also mean defending the road in between. Anyone trying to get to Bagram would have had enjoy the pleasure of being targeted by the Taliban. So airlifting from Bagram would have been dubious, at best.
He never said that, but Stupid Henry Payne doesn’t know the difference. However, over 124,000 evacuees in 17 days with 13 casualties in a warzone, despite the chaos in the beginning.
Yes, it could have gone better. It could also have gone a lot worse, which it undoubtedly would have under Trump or practically any GOP (except probably Kasich or La Hood [Ray, not his boy Darin!!!])
Only a narcissist as deluded as Biden could call the Afghan withdrawal an “extraordinary success”! As far as the fool second guessing his “generals”, Obama ran off all the real war fighters years ago; all that’s left are yes men hoping to make it to retirement.

It’s terrible; Biden got all Americans safely out. What a disaster. A total failure.

I honestly wonder how people think it could have gone better… all things considered. What would a Republican president have done?

No. No, it did not.
