Another “once in a 100 years” storm shows up only 16 years later and on Hurricane Katrina’s birthday. Where were the hurricane nukes? Where are the paper towels? Oh, wait – we now have an administration that actually sent in help ASAP and actual help – not paper towels. Of course the grid collapsed – if only the infrastructure was better looked after. Somebody should write a bill about that – Oh! Lookee here! Of course the roads are blocked or washed away – Hey, that Infrastructure Bill would have helped – Where exactly was that for the past few years? I mean instead of BS about paper towels & nuking hurricanes (you know completely wild, insane raving and vicious talk & vitriol from that useless pile of crap, Dolt .45)?
Certainly, the “Ida Know” in each panel is a nod to Bil Keene and his ghost excuse characters in “Family Circus.” Where is “Not Me” and “Nobody” and “Oh Yeah!”? Will Jones next incorporate the dotted line device that Keene used to trace Billy’s wanderings to portray the politicians’ excuses as to “Who Lost Afghanistan?”?
(And does anybody here remember Keane’s strip prior to “Family Circus,” “Channel Chuckles”?)
I live in tornado alley, it is different than in hurricane area. I’m 71, and have seen 2 tornadoes, one in my area of far eastern Oklahoma that hit a community center and that was all the damage. The other in the Texas panhandle. Tornadoes can do damage for sure, but at the moment I’m seeing a tornado warning for south of Boston. It comes from the leftovers of a hurricane. It is easier to stay safe from a tornado, we have a tornado shelter, than a hurricane. I know of no hurricane shelters.
Here in the area of Texas where I live, there are occasionally flooded lowland along creeks and rivers.Within in the last 10 or 20 years, I have noticed a lot of building in those areas. From houses to mini-communities. There is plenty of higher ground, even around those areas. To the best of my memory, some of these haven’t been flooded since the 1960s. There is an area along the Brazos that floods almost every year. People get in their boats and go rescue people trapped in their mobile homes. The boat owners rarely last over 3 seasons. When they realize they are pulling the same people out year after year.

Ida know why Trump called the conservative radio host to whine because the news media was reporting about Ida 24/7. Ida know why they took his call.

FEMA is emergency management, which is a joke. How do you manage a hurricane? Did we forget to tell Ida to behave?

Having been through a flood, it was a helpless feeling with the mess and any kind of help was greatly appreciated.

I’m not going to make fun of FEMA, they have a difficult job to do and likely a competent person at the helm.
They can’t control how long it takes the water to drain and the weather to cooperate to facilitate repair and rebuilding.
