That’s right Lisa, through the tenants out on the street. Q-publicans thing that there aren’t enough homeless out there, so they certainly won’t help those who are having problems paying rent .

Lisa Benson is so uninformed if she has not heard that there is a fund to cover the back rent. The fund has $46 billion dollars and only $3 billion has been paid out. This protects both the renters who have suffered setbacks due to COVID-19, the Trump Plague, as well as the landlords.

As a small landlord with one property (a previous residence that we kept and rented out), I clearly understand the plight of “mom and pop” landlords who still have to pay taxes, insurance and a mortgage. It also does no good for landlords to have their properties emptied by evictions and no one else with the financial ability to take their places.

I also don’t want to see people out on the street through no fault of their own.

A system fails when there are millions of vacant properties while millions are out on the streets. We can have humane public policies that address the legitimate needs on all sides.

The assistance fund addresses both needs, but it is being administered state-by-state and there have been delays and red tape. The TEMPORARY moratorium buys time to get the processing completed, to help renters stay in their homes and also make sure landlords get made whole.

Ignoring that fact that there is money allocated to pay for those renters in arrears. I know, don’t confuse a conserve with facts when they are trying to stick it to a lib.

Maybe this pandemic is showing us that people owning other people’s homes is no way to run an enlightened, modern society.

Oh wait, Lisa is a conservative, so naturally she has no interest in an enlightened society.

Interesting to note, Loony Lisa, that evicted people don’t end up paying rent and without anyone moving in (no money), there’s no prospect of getting anything until things improve, which anti-vaxxing MAGAts are ensuring won’t happen.

A Cloward and Piven strategy will destroy small businesses and eradicate the Kulak’s/Small Business owners (bourgeoisie). This will leave large corporations untouched and in a dominant position (ever wonder why big businesses like Democrats?) Once all the small business owners (aka Kulaks) are reduced to poverty (aka Equality) then the bourgeoise is abolished and subservient to the political elite then Socialism can be implemented on a larger scale. Large corporations will fall in line and be absorbed into the governing body (like Nazi Germany, Russia, China, Cuba, etc) and the Social Fascists will rule over the unwashed masses (aka proletariat) for the common good.

Only an idiot or social fascist who hasn’t read history can’t see what is happening.

For the greater good of course (as dictated by political elites who know better than YOU).

This is not entirely true as the landlords, as small businesses, can lay claim to the business assistance provided in the stimulus acts.

Lisa-the-Shill doesn’t have the intelligence, education, or experience to lie on her own. All she can do is parrot the GOP Leadershit Party Line. She neither knows nor cares on the effects of her BS. As long as she gets her two-week infusion of Koch money, she simply doesn’t give a shit.

The unconstitutional eviction moratorium will benefit whom? Well, NOT the small property owners. The big, corporate guys are riding it out. The fed has made nearly free capital available that the large real estate owning corporations are using to buy up lots of property – including single family homes. Weren’t you all wondering why demand for homes has remained so high while there was a pandemic and a government induced recession? This high demand has driven up prices because supply is low. It’s bad enough that the average potential homeowner is competing with others like themselves, but now there are large corporations added to the mix and squeezing more and more people out of the market because prices are being pushed up. As for the landlords – When the small property owners fail it’s the big guys who end up buying those properties. Is this what the administration wants? Blackrock, for example is a mega corp that has been increasing it’s real estate investment. Look at how many Blackrock people are inside the biden administration. Look at how much Blackrock has donated to dems. It should make you question the motivation behind the decision to give SCOTUS and the US Constitution the middle finger and extend the eviction moratorium.

Not entirely wrong, but disingenuos. The US Census estimates that 10 million households are behind on their rent due to the pandemic. Does Ms Benson propose we put them all out on the street? The landlords will lose all that back rent, with no chance of recovering it.

Willfully breaking the law and relying on judicial delay to get away with it is an awful approach to governance. We saw NY and California do this to unfairly shut down churches and synagogues. Now Biden is deliberately doing this and even admitting that he is doing this! The Supreme Court will be asked to reject the new extension of the eviction ban, and certainly will. In practical terms, therefore, the extension will likely not buy more than a few days for people in danger of eviction… Beyond being tactically foolish, Biden’s action reflects an inappropriate degree of disrespect for the authority of the Supreme Court. The order also admits that the CDC is using ‘modeling studies and observational data from the pre-vaccine phase of the COVID-19 pandemic’ to justify an order given now, when around 60 percent of Americans are vaccinated. Rather than using her majority in the House to pass new legislation, Pelosi punted on what ought to be the primary responsibility of Congress — passing a law…Schumer simply pointed to the protest staged by Cori Bush ‘You are great,’ Schumer said. ‘You did this. One person did this!’…. Hummmm…. So much for the Senate taking on its intended constitutional role to pass legislation. Biden folded to Pelosi and Schumer and became their B**CH. So much for leadership. As a candidate, Biden promised to take ‘aggressive action’ to ‘maintain the rule of law, and to bring integrity back to our justice system. Instead he’s hit upon a novel way to degrade the rule of law and make our justice system a joke.

Yes the money is available to help the landlords. The corporate property owners have no difficulty collecting it. They have teams of lawyers assigned to do just that and also look for loop holes to get some bad tenants out. The small property owner, if he can’t afford a lawyer must wade through piles of paperwork to get his application in than wait in line to prove there case. Most can’t afford to miss several months rental income. Many are operating on a shoe string budget and can not exist while the State bureaucracy fumbles it’s way through the process to get them paid. There is no comparable difficulty for the renter. Not paying is his an option they have and many use it even if they have the money.

States have not distributed all of the federal funds that were provided to assist renters and landlords.

    https://publicintegrity.org/inequality-poverty-opportunity/covid-divide/rental-assistance-did-not-go-to-tenants-landlords/

After the 2008 financial / real-estate meltdown when banks were bailed out instead of supporting owners with underwater mortgages (Bush 43’s TARP), judges allowed banks to fast track foreclosures without proper paperwork. Some foreclosers were started against people that had paid off their mortgages and they had to go to court to prove this. Banks ended upo with LOTS of real estate. Since then hedge funds and other massive real estate investors have taken over quite a bit of the real estate in the U.S. About 10% is owned by other countries. There need to be major changes to the laws to protect home owners and small landlords along with their renters.

As stated, the larger problem is with states not distributing the money that is there.

The other problem has been unscrupulous landlords trying to double dip, by taking the money intended to pay people’s rent and still trying to collect the back rent that has already been paid.

Interesting thought exercise. If people can’t afford to eat should the grocery stores be required to allow them to walk in and load up without paying? No, the government provides food vouchers. There is a rental assistance program but it relies on the tenant to file. Apparently the renters aren’t doing it so the landlords get hung out to dry.

Sigh… tenant/landlord, lord/subject, smoke and mirrors, prestidigitation, government meddling, bourgeois/proletariat, and other tropes. As tragic and unfortunate as it is, the government has no right to interfere with the rights of a property owner, at least according to the established principles of this country. Governments have power, enforced at the end of a barrel, and if you don’t constrain it, it will blow off your face, whatever “color” you choose. And it damn well has no business preventing eviction for lack of rent payment OR paying landlords for back due rent. But then, that concept of property is long dead, just like this country. Have fun with your petty political squabbles while the world around you incinerates.
