If we want energy independence, it is going to take a couple things. First, get hemp off schedule one at the federal level so industrial hemp can be grown in all the unused or untenable farmlands. The seeds can be squeezed for their oil which can replace petroleum in many cases (diesel and gas) which leaves behind a protein rich seed cake that could easily be transported to famine struck areas. The leftovers can be compressed into biomass pellets. (or used in one of several other industries like paper, textiles or livestock fodder)The other thing we need is nuclear energy which has become much safer. Four or five of these meltdown-proof facilities could alleviate a lot of problems.
It’s not the Middle East yoke we should be worried about. Wanna guess who makes most of world’s solar panels, produces most of the world’s lithium ion batteries, and controls the rare earth metals market required to make batteries when the sun ain’t shining and the wind ain’t blowing? That’s right, China…
Liberty, justice, and energy independence for all!
Leave politics out of this. I am SO tired of the constant political diatribes from commenters who have no bloody idea what they are talking about. Republicans and Democrats both. Just once I’d like to read the comics and enjoy it without politics.
