Now, the state of Florida wants professors and students to fill out a form disclosing their political views.

how things have changed in the last 25 years…

Republicans in several states are determined to take us back to the McCarthy era when it comes to RWNJ political correctness.

The Left used to champion freedom of speech. But now they only champion approved speech.

(The Right is no better, but now they only champion Dear Leader’s speech.)

I freely admit that I find some others’ speech a completely waste of a marvelous ability, a denigration of the intelligence of all involved.

This one’s from 1996 but there are recent cases of teachers being denied tenure or attempts being made to deny them because those one or two in charge disagree with precisely what the professor was hired for in the first place and whose classes are quite popular. Nothing has changed and it’s gotten worse in some cases. Many if not most colleges and universities have teaching assistants and professors of lower stature teaching the clssses, and they do not advance them and tenure few if any.

Yup, you can say whatever you want, as long as you don’t say anything somebody thinks somebody else won’t like but is to timid to complain.

“You can say anything you want. Anything!” As long as you don’t mention slavery and racism in America.

Someone, somewhere has all that you have said and done on social media. Be afraid…be very afraid!

the Trumpers and the GOP allow Trump to get away with saying anything he wants even if it is something derogatory about them!

People actually ARE losing their jobs over what they say in the classroom these days.

Now we are a nation of snowflakes. And you have to give trigger warnings. Life’s a bitch. If you can’t handle it, it isn’t my fault.

In 2013, NC eliminated tenure for public school teachers – its Republican-controlled legislature thought that was a good idea… caused a mass exodus of teachers, and a lawsuit (they were also trying to strip tenure from teachers who had already earned it)… with that and budget and pay cuts, NC plunged to near the bottom of all States on the education list…

Since then, NC still has a Republican-controlled legislature but not as big a majority. It has had to answer its lack of teachers problem – the Republicans reluctantly gave small raises and added back a little budget for public schools (tenure is still unobtainable for teachers who didn’t already have it), then patted themselves on their own backs for what they’d done… NC is still well down on the education list and still has trouble finding and keeping teachers…

They also get a bit upset when they catch professors trying to sell NAMBLA memberships to the Frat Bois.

so, how thin can a skin get..

25 years later maybe no-one loses their job for what they say in the classroom, although some will be swiftly silenced if they’re talking about Uyghurs, Tibet, Tiananmen Square…

Freedom of speech, a thing of the past. Trudeau is deluded if he thinks you can advocate anything except tenure ..
