Q-publicans think this is the day to take away voting rights, especially from those with dark skin.

Won’t be surprised if someone starts a riot or something today. (12:08 AM CST for the records, in case my prediction is right…)

Our nation seems to be schizophrenic. Half plus some of us seem to see everyone as potentially equal and work (or at least wish) for more equality, more rights for all. The rest seem to be intent on returning us to a condition of servitude with only the obscenely rich having any real rights or power.

The very thing that makes America exceptional is its diversity — its lack of homogeneity - even though the demographics of its population have changed over time. The Kochs, Mercers, Adelsons, Murdochs, et al have created a fear of equality, creating propaganda to stifle the very thing that has given America its strength and perseverance. Feudalism will not preserve a mythical demographic balance based on the notion of racial, ethnic, or religious “purity”. DNA testing will show that is no longer possible in America. Trying to deny voting rights to specific cohorts is an attack on the very thing that makes America exceptional and real Americans - unlike the deceitful, distrusting, disrespectful, divisive, flag-waving ones — are fighting to preserve this exceptional equality and diversity.

’Twould the new holiday erase all the pain and vicissitudes that our fellow Americans have endured since 1619. Why they be our founding Americans. Incredibly they always seem forgive us, if only we could serve them as well.

I had never heard of Juneteenth before I moved to Texas twenty years ago. Now it’s a National Holiday. Wow! And Yay!

Mean while back in Georgia, they purged 100,000 voters from their voter registration…..calling it " maintenance". AND getting AWAY. With it…….like the GOP get away with everything they do….why is that? The GOP-structionist party of evil.

So, all the tax payers are rejoicing having to pay for a holiday “they” are not entitled to.. Odd logic. (and yes I know federal employees pay taxes too)

The official version is new and still feels empty for many but Juneteenth has been observed for decades.

Delaware was the last to free its nearly 2,000 slaves on Dec. 6, 1865, six months after Texas. Dec. 6 would be the most accurate date to celebrate the end of slavery. That’s when the 13th Amendment was ratified in 1865, officially abolishing slavery throughout the United States.
