Lo, the Massive Andre; formerly of the cold feet, now shod in Roman Battle Sandals; approaches the lethal paper wasp with a commanding battle cry urging the encroaching invader to cease and desist terrorizing this revered and hallowed stage and allow m’lady to perform. Mr. wasp, sensing no relief from his unquenchable thirst from that accursed straw decides to leave anyway thinking, “I’m outa here, too many weird kooks, ’specially this guy”.  Ah, and Petey, who deserves my apology for mistakenly stating he took off for home. As you can see, he is still immobile with frozen fear, babbling the name of one his many nemeses while that same nemesis, hovering nearby, gives Petey wide berth, thinking him a possible fire hydrant gussied up for some holiday celebration! Oh, and Alice is still smitten…

Petey being as observant as usual…..

The late Richard Thompson was so dead-on with the characters of this strip, and child behavior in general that his wit is definitely missed.
