I seen similar attempts at the AA minor league baseball games in my town. An up-and-coming rookie on the team would be requested to sign a dozen or more trading cards by a kid – or a kid of rather advanced age. (I’m not into this, so I have no idea where the cards come from.)
while I was in college and getting into comics (especially Carl Barks) I remember going to a comic book sale of multiple dealers one weekend and seeing a booth being managed by two young kids, no more than 11 years old, wearing a three piece suit. The table that held their comic books came up to their chest and their head barely poked over the top of the boxes holding their comic books. They had a humongous collection to sell, too. Couldn’t figure out that angle.
