“Dr. Fauci told the Poynter Institute on May 11 that he was “not convinced” that COVID-19 had developed naturally, and said authorities needed to continue to find out “exactly what happened.”
The difference between “I’m not convinced you’re not an idiot” and “I think you could be an idiot” should be clear enough for even, well, an idiot to understand.
I have often wondered if Carl Sagan, in publishing his detailed critical analysis of Velikovsky’s astrophysics nonsense in “Worlds in Collision” did more to boost sales of that book than to diminish them …
And I wonder if Martin Gardner, whose lifelong mission was to expose and debunk various pseudoscience theories, actually gave them wider exposure among the easily credulous.
And now — the perennial return of UFOs, AKA “flying saucers.” What is it in human nature that turns so readily to mystery mongering and imaginative nonsense? To paraphrase the adage traditionally applied to The Devil, “Speak of Nonsense, and it appears emboldened before you.”
Dr.Fauci has an open mind capable to adjusting his beliefs based on available data. As China is fairly closed to investigations on the origin of Covid, that data has been very limited which leads to much speculation. But, the good doctor has stayed to course in following the best data and letting that be his guide. Which is more than can be said of Trumpians and Bokians that are fixed in their mindset.
Nice to see the legacy media and tech giants finally catch up to us skeptics. After calling everyone who raised the possibility a lunatic, quietly they’re now admitting it’s possible (which is all we ever said). Facebook has stopped removing posts that raise the issue, which is a step in the right direction. Now, is Fauci ever going to face justice for funding gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology after President Obama specifically told him not to?
For cryin’ out loud, Bok — haven’t you ever heard of RESEARCH?!?!?
The whole nature of research is change. You start your research with a particular goal in mind. As you continue with your research (hopefully discovering new information & evidence as you go along), the discoveries made will often cause the researcher to re-evaluate the original goal and start to consider other possible outcomes/results of said research.
The virus was man made… like the making of the atomic bomb. It never would occur on its own.It would never happen without human technology, engineering etc. Just as with the making of the bomb, there were folks that said it was a bad idea – and others, who thought it was a good idea, went ahead with their task anyway. Evil geniuses.
The reason they called it a “novel” corona virus is because it is new. Scientists are trying to learn about it. Sometimes they learn new stuff. Deal with it.
When disaster strikes, the first order of business should be to take steps to minimize the damage that will result from it, not to fix the blame on any one person or group of persons. Effective leaders understand this, and deliberately avoid placing the blame. They focus on ameliorative steps. Poor leaders look for the responsible party, even as they neglect remediation. Tyrants look for a scapegoat, hoping to deflect blame from themselves.
Dr. Fauci is the first type of leader. Donald Trump was a tyrant.
Even if this cartoon were true, Mr. Bok, when will you and your ilk ever understand that science adapts to new information? If a thesis doesn’t stand up to testing, scientists adapt the thesis rather than cling to falsehoods with every fiber of their being. Unlike, say, conservatives.
What damn difference does it make WHERE it came from? It’s here,it’s deadly & it took the whole PLANET by surprise! And if sinister evils unleashed it upon their OWN planet, well,I guess this is now the beginning of the end,for all intents & purposes! Kids, getcha coats!
actually what he said is that there was no evidence it was man made. … And you know it probably not a good idea to go accusing another nation of making a virus that has killed millions of people without some type of evidence. And so saying that he is not convinced that it is not man made is simply saying the same thing… that there is no evidence either way. Its a shame that so many on the right interpret “no evidence” as … well… evidence.

No Chippy, he did not say that. The virus might have escaped the lab where it was being studied.

The number of times Bok self owns is staggering. Why publishers continue to use his work is surprising.

Science isn’t “truth” it’s a search for the truth. As we know and learn more sometimes the conclusions evolve and change……It’s science, not religion.

Dr. Fauci said no such thing. You are a liar bok., but that doesn’t matter to the GQP party, it’s a requirement for admission.

Bok and Benson (and most neocons, to be fair) have a practically supernatural ability to take a nuanced issue and spin it into a complete lie.
