The Australian Daily Telegraph, owned by Rupert Murdock, says there is a 15 page dossier that proves it came from the lab. But the Five Eyes Network that the Telegraph implies made the dossier says that although China may not have been forth coming with everything they knew, there is still no direct evidence that it came from the lab.
There has never been even ONE person who had the slightest grip on reality who claims the virus did not originate in China. The problem was that the orange Mistake kept making a point of it and implying that it was CAUSED by China, which is completely unproven even though some folks are now saying they’d like to see a more complete investigation of the origin.
And it was the Rump who said “it will magically go away”. We all knew it came from China, but we didn’t want to stigmatize the Chinese people by labeling as such. The Rump, and his fluffers, are too stupid to get that.
Again, Mike is duplicitous in his assertion. There is no dispute China was studying the virus and that it’s origins were from China. Trump and his cronies asserted China created the virus and released it on the world. Lester’s malicious mendacity is again laid bare.
I know lots of people, some of them lefties, that are now leaning towards the leaked from the lab theory. None of them think it was done on purpose. In fairness to the past occupant, I don’t remember him saying it was on purpose, either. But he was clearly just guessing on the lab origins theory – even a blind squirrel, etc.

Um yeah we all already acknowledged the origins was from mainland China. Will he ever acknowledge his incompetent leadership is responsible for over 500k American deaths? Of course not.
There is no doubt that the virus came from China. The question is, was it deliberately developed by researchers. The only reason that comes to mind to develop a more deadly form of an existing infection agent is for the purpose of creating a bioweapon. However, Covid-19 is the opposite of everything a national military would want. Bioweapons need to kill quickly, they need to kill or disable a high percentage of its victims, and it needs to NOT be highly contagious because you don’t want the lingering effects to infect your own troops, and you want any battlefield / territory you are taking to be quickly occupied by your own forces. Weaponized anthrax meets those requirements. Covid-19 is the opposite of all those requirements. I accept the possibility that it was leaked from a research lab, but I do not accept that it was the focus of bioweapons research. I suppose it is possible that they were using it as a model to understand how infections spread so they could integrate that knowledge into other research, but that seems rather thin.
No one has seriously doubted that it originated in China. This is a strawman. What’s been contentious is whether or not it was deliberately engineered. The science shows that is pretty unlikely; it bears none of the hallmarks of genetic engineering. However, China was definitely actively studying coronaviruses, for the obvious reason that they’d already suffered serious outbreaks of SARS (a close relative of SARS-CoV2 which causes covid-19). It’s possible they had a specimen of it already in their lab, and that a lab accident exposed their own workers, resulting in the true “patient zero” infection. It’s also possible that this happened, but it was also already in circulation; viruses, especially zoonoses, can have more than one “patient zero”.
That’s the main reason why harping on the lab in Wuhan was such a waste of time. It is of academic interest, certainly, and it is of great public health interest to ensure that if there was a mishap, they take steps to prevent it happening again. But it doesn’t really change our response to the virus. Regardless of where it started, it’s something we have to deal with. I get that people want someone to blame, but that’s not really productive.
