And let’s get politicians and generals who remember what wars really cost. Too many lately went after the wrong “enemies” and/or made more profits than sense. Before we turn more countries against us for generations, let’s see why we’re thinking about sending weapons and troops, and to where and to whom.

Prayers for the fallen and the wounded and their loved ones. The effects are felt far from the front and much longer than the signing of the peace treaty.

A reminder that there are those who have been willing to pay the ultimate price to defend the freedom of themselves and of others and we thank you for that!

As I mentioned in my comments to today’s Red and Rover strip, I live in the UK and had an uncle who was killed in World War II. I also had an uncle who was taken prisoner and survived but who died before I could know him. I also knew two uncles who fought in World War II and survived but died of smoking-related illnesses in the 1980s – around the time that I finished school.

My husband was lucky to make it back from a war mentally and physically intact. This day is special to him, because he’s remembering those with whom he served, who didn’t make it back. This also must be a poignant day for those who lost a loved one to war.

As one who wrote that blank check (luckily it was never cashed) I had many friends whose check was cashed – both in peacetime and in war. I can still remember every single one of them. You never forget.
