So Varvel finally acknowledges the problem here. Showing a common stop-sign riddled with bullet holes is a most eloquent way to highlight the widespread tragedy of gun violence.
5 people shot in SC yesterday. It was a black man who killed a white doctor, his wife and 2 grandkids and a worker at the home. Story doesn’t fit the “white guy with a gun” narrative so there seems to little feigned outrage from the left. If the deranged killer wasn’t an ex-NFL player it would have gotten next to zero media play. As with each of the recent mass shootings (aside form the gang-related ones) the underlying cause is mental illness. I miss the old days when “if it bleeds it leads” was the media agenda. At least then there was some honesty to their motives.
Politicians and the media from BOTH sides have sold false narratives to their minions for years on this issue to the point where they’ve created a division a mile wide and shot to hell (pun intended) any chance of common sense gun reforms. Way to go a-holes!
And what exactly do we think any of these executive orders are going to do to reduce the shootings?
They may sound good to some people, but are they really effective?
Like an assault weapons ban – didn’t work from ‘94-’04 per the government’s own data. But we’ll rehash it because it gets the left all in a dither.
Here’s the concept. Many of us firearms owners have no problem with “common sense” “gun control” measures…….The issue is that many of the ideas from the left don’t really accomplish a freaking thing.
Firearms are the tools used to cause so much pain and destruction…….but there are two main underlying issues that our society and government and politicians don’t ever seem to address.
1) poverty
2) mental illness
Work on those two issues in positive, meaningful ways and so much is fixed in our society – and not just in regards to firearms related deaths either.
But it’s easier to malign firearms and those of us that own them as ammosexuals and wanting to beat off with our AR or shotgun or pistol than it is to actually try to fix the underlying issue.
Sort of like painting a car but not fixing the rotting frame and body panels.
Until we understand the difference between keeping some guns away from all people, and keeping some people away from all guns, we will continue the carnage.
I’ve seen many a stop sign that looks like that along the back roads of Oklahoma and Arkansas. People who don’t know how to use a gun, (I do), as they have to shoot at things they have no business shooting at. Hunter safety courses teach people how to handle guns safely, but many don’t pay attention.

I see some more carnage in TX but it is okay as non of the shot were fetuses, so prolifers aren’t interested in stopping the shootings.

Varvel wouldn’t know common-sense if it bit him on the arse.

Gonna fail isn’t it.. relying on common sense is a sure loser.

Is Varvel saying that commonsense laws don’t work on gun violence? Maybe he should reflect on the implications of that.

None of these gun nuts take these shootings seriously because 95% have never been shot, shot at, or seen someone whose been shot.

Looks like the street Varvel lives on.

Does not appear that Varvel thinks that the ‘epidemic of deaths in the U.S. from firearms’ is a serious issue.

Gun violence is a fictional creation to blame an object for a person’s desire to kill another person.

Varvel accidentally got it right – the shot up Stop sign (government property paid for by taxpayers) does show what irresponsible gun nuts do…

Is Varvel advocating meaningful limitations on gun ownership?

Guns prevent gulags. That’s why Democrats hate them so much.

President Placeholder wouldn’t recognize common sense if it creepily massaged his shoulders while sniffing his hair.
