Yes, vegetation, with sunlight, converts carbon dioxide, releases oxygen and stores that solar power as firewood. Biomass power-plants may be our best source of solar power for charging your Tesla…….
Actually, photosynthesis average 5.4% efficiency chiefly because, being green, chlorophyll reflects (and thus not absorbs) the part of the solar spectrum that contains the most of the light energy. Current solar panels have around 20% efficiency, and the record for experimental solar cells is 47%. So who’s the amateur now?
God’s plan to harness solar energy works pretty well. Creates O2, recycles CO2, gives us reduced carbon in portable, store able forms that can be used as food, construction material and an energy source.
Humans have always trailed behind Nature in understanding life on earth. Mankind’s one advantage is to be able to take one facet and work backwards to learn how it developed. But we are still unable to see how to it will progress in the future.
Example: corn has been a major food staple for humans and animals for centuries. Over that same period, corn been crossbred, pest- and herbicided, genetically modified, and ‘improved’ beyond all measure. Now it’s also become the go-to for baby bottoms, chafing clothing, and chapped body parts. It also is very finely ground so it easily becomes airborne and thus capable of being inhaled during its application. So exposure on two fronts.
The mass extinction of species eliminates many potential sources of biological substances that might benefit mankind. Researchers comb all corners of the world looking for them. Antibiotics, heart medications, aspirin, etc. were originally discovered as natural substances and are now synthetically derived.

386,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 watts. Imagine that amount of energy the Sun has!

I still think that a Dyson sphere would be cooler.

Plans have been doing it since the beginning of time. No problemo, no special planning.

Yes, plants do all that. But they sacrifice mobility (and other things) for it.

They were doing it as they spoke, we now call it Vitamin D

to harness it and then charge others high prices to use it!

And the trees don’t leave toxic fields for their needs.

Future, anyone?

And, if the species thinks long enough, it will refrain from spending too much time in its energy.

Put solar panels in orbit for peak efficency.

We.. already do/have by harvesting those that have perfected it. Kind of an unfair shortcut.. but it’s a dog eat dog world.

Too bad they’ll destroy each other shortly after perfecting that technology.

Well, methinks it’s probably best that the majority of its energy is lost to space and for the inverse-square law.

Especially if corporations could get a “depletion allowance” on the Sun.
