Riding in the back was so fun and I loved talking through that little order window in the back. With the goofy laws of today, one would think no one could’ve survived our childhoods. But we did live and love life, just like Wallace. …Now where’s a broken down bridge, it’s time to see if this puppy can fly!!!
As others have said, riding in the back of a pickup was the best! We also used to lie down and look out the back of my uncle’s station wagon! Life is for living, not just surviving. Sure wish more folk knew this!
A bit of a related aside story – I was going down the highway a few years ago when a pickup passed me, going at least 80. There was a medium sized excited dog in the back, and I thought it looked like it was about to jump. Several moments later, with the truck aways ahead, that dog did jump – hit the tar and tumbled, tumbled, tumbled with legs flailing….another car ahead pulled over to help the dog while I went on to try to flag the owner down, since he kept going. Finally he realized what happened and pulled over….I blasted my horn at him, to say “YOU STUPID JERK!”
We didn’t have any trucks, but I remember standing up in the back seat of our family car and enjoying riding that way. Fortunately, there wasn’t that much traffic around.

When I was a kid my friends and I enjoyed riding in the bed of a pickup truck. I thinks it is illegal to let kids do this in most places now.

Patience, and a proverb:
We’ll jump that bridge when we come to it.
Actually, no, that’s not very helpful… um…

Interesting how so many of us have fond memories of doing dumb things.

When I try to imagine what everyone in this strip sounds like, I hear the cast from “Bob’s Burgers.”

Okay, I give up. What does it mean to jump a bridge? Surely she doesn’t mean leaping to one’s death.
