It could be less complicated Ralph. Just need to keep the women from getting involved.

Besides, she said you have to ask, not tell, Alexis to turn on the lamp.

I was watching a show which featured a retired police officer named “Alexa” as the main character. Then I heard a female voice say “I don’t know the answer to that”. My tablet was talking to my television! And I wasn’t included in the conversation!

Depending on how many times he pulled the chain, there’s only a 50/50 chance it would actually come on, unless the lamp had multi-output settings in which case his odds are better

Could be worse…she could have said “Alexis, turn on outlet four, PLEASE!”

“Outlet 4”? Don’t name things “Outlet 4”. give them names you’ll remember, like “The living room lamp.” Much simpler.

Alexis will never be in my house. It’s bad enough I have an iPhone that listens in. I don’t know how many times I have had a casual (non-telephone) conversation and then began to see ads specifically about what we were talking about.

I’m not interested in swapping out a $4 bulb for a $90 bulb that will be obsolete in 18 months. Still too many conflicting “standards”.

Who would use Outlet 4 as a name? My husband’s reading lamp is called light and his bedside light is called bed. Sometimes he’ll venture out of his comfort level and say Christmas on or Christmas off to turn on all the holiday lights in and out but that’s all he can handle. I actually have about 2 dozen of these plugs, all named. And no, there’s not a lot of confidential information given out in our daily conversations to be overheard.

Yeah, an internet-connected microphone that listens 24/7. what could go wrong? Add me to the list of people who don’t get it. The benefits are absolutely minimal or even non-existent.

I have to agree. Just get up and turn on the light (or have your kid do it).
