It’s official, Jon really needs to buy a couch with a special kind of leather that keeps cats from scratching it. Though of course, knowing Garfield, he might find a way around it.
I know I will get a lot of flack for this but this exact thing is why me and my soon to be ex husband got our cat declawed, she clawed up and ruined all three living furniture pieces that were only a few years old to the point that we had to buy flat bed sheets to put over them and then when we bought a new bed with a leather headboard she went after that and it was not a cheap headboard and we decided either she goes or her claws go and I couldn’t give her up so she got declawed, our vet was a very close family friend and he did it as gently as he could and she only was in pain for a couple of days and was a permanent inside cat so it wasn’t a problem for her not to have her claws. When we got our second cat we got him declawed as soon as he was old enough.
I’ve had couches that look like that, but that’s not why my cats are declawed. They went to the vet when one got his claw stuck in the other’s eye, and the antibiotics which she absolutely had to take resulted in her dropping to 4 lbs. She nearly lost her eye and she also nearly lost her life, so we declaw.

Credibility stretched here … can’t believe Garfield expended that much energy to cause that much damage.

Given a choice between a scratching post or furniture, cats will always go for the furniture.

I’m surprised Jon can even afford to have a house over his head with Garfield around.

Maybe Garfield should’ve read this book called, “How to scratch your owner’s sofa, without being caught”.
