Is sentencing really up to them?
How about a zillion years or life, whichever comes first.
For all intents and purposes, that’s effectively what some American sentences are.
If it were Judge Judy, she’d say, “Not in my courtroom.”
Could have been worse. Could have been life.

Can it at least be served concurrently?
Not being all that familiar with the legal system, I think the most a person can get is life plus 1 day.
