Hard to have unity when they are trying to let the twice impeached former pres get away with high crimes and misdemeanors. People died and were seriously hurt. He waited in his office and did nothing for hours. Think about that cruz, graham, mcconnell, paul and so many others. You helped perpetuate his big lie.

Unity has to work from BOTH sides. And the Democrats have been doing all the work on that for decades. Your turn, GOP.

    You want unity?

We need to unite behind the cause of punishing all insurrectionists from the top down.

    Then we can have unity.

Republicans* have NO CONCEPT of unity.

    None.

They think only in terms of all or nothing.

    .

The idea of a win-win is foreign to them. Their ONLY idea is I win YOU lose. They do not compromise unless absolutely forced to.

That’s why they are terrified of democracy.

And they are willing to go to ANY lengths to remain in power. If people, including cops die and are seriously injured, it’s just something more to LIE about to make go away.

    .

Is there some issue, ANY issue, that Lisa and other Trump Disciples will NOT lie about?

The ONLY “Unity” the GQP wants is for EVERYONE to bow down to Hair Furor, and accept that we now live in the Dictatorship of Trumpistan.

    Well…SCREW THEM!!!

Ms Benson’s down-the-rabbit-hole world is her go-to place each time an ice-cold bucket of reality drenches her. She KNOWS that the prospect of the GOP Leadershit’s having an interest in, much less pursuing, unity and bipartisanship is utter nonsense. The GOP Leadershit’s interests, in descending order, are: (1) being reëlected; (2) collecting campaign contributions from corporations and gullible supporters; (3) shilling for corporations; (4) amassing personal fortunes for its members; (5) double-dealing, i.e., their raison d’être is found in Psalm 5:10—For there is no sincerity in their mouth; their heart is corrupt. Their throat is an open grave; on their tongue are subtle lies.

You gotta prime the pump, Lisa. That means, in this case, that both sides will need to care.

And until the GOP does what it needs to do, and work to convict Trump, it isn’t going to happen.

Richard Mourdock, the Tea-Bagger who primaried respected and accomplished US Senator Lugar in 2012, said (I paraphrase) “compromise is when you force your opponents to do what you want.”

That’s the Party of Trump’s notion of “unity.”

Republicans aren’t stupid. They know they can’t consider unity. Their Trump loving base is devoted to the exact opposite…they want to dominate, not cooperate. Supporting unity is basically conceding defeat in the next primary by someone who promotes division and anger.

Despite Joe’s belief that he can work with the Repubs, I see him putting away that reasoning in favor of just going it alone in order to get things done. Only by getting things done can we hope to win more seats in Congress during the midterms.

President Biden wisely called for unity. How will that happen? Already Republicans (some) have joined Democrats in voting for impeachment of President Trump. Republicans have worked to allow “regular” order in impeachment and its trial. The Republicans have allowed “anti-Trump” Republicans to remain in good standing in there elected positions. Republicans have gone to President Biden with a compromise plan on the “COVID Stimulus Bill”. Senate Republicans and Democrats worked together to continue “regular” order in the Senate. This is a start. Just as the Democrats have concerns about unity, the Republicans are concerned about the unprecedented number of Executive Orders in the first week of the new administration.

What steps do you see that can create unity, that’s is government that includes the wisdom and interests of both sides of the electorate?

We’re not going to get unity. We might try to start with civility and recognition of reality. Then perhaps we could move towards the identification of shared interests and goals. The perhaps examination of proposed ways to achieve those goals. Can we agree, for instance, that climate change is a tremendous imminent threat? Can we agree that it would be a good idea to try to reduce that threat as quickly as possible? Okay, now let’s talk about how to do that.

I’ll believe the republicans want unity when they stop throwing tantrums and acting like little children. When they are ready to ‘play fair’ instead of pouting and stamping their feet because they can’t get their way I’ll believe they truly want unity, but until then to hell with their brand of childish unity.

Unity does not come from absolving criminal Republicans of their crimes. Unity comes from admitting to and paying for those crimes.

A good start would be for every single Republican politician, all the way down to small township road commissioners, to admit publicly that President Biden and Vice President Harris won the election fairly.

An election fraught with Republican voter suppression, but no election fraud from the Democrats, all they did was help ensure people could exercise their right to vote.

Lets keep it real. Americans need to demand unity above either party. The only bipartisanship that matters is on issues that have the support of Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters in consistent polling.
